I won't give to the bucket holders in traffic but I will stop for a car wash occasionally. I don't even care if they do a shitty job but they're gonna do something.
This- there's nothing worse to me than the 'Calendar Day Fundraiser'- Pick a day/days and just send me the money.

what fricking tournament cost 1500 for each parent to enter?
Umm, maybe read the part that I quoted that said it was the costs for 9 tournaments. Sure I missed the "s" when I replied, but it's obvious the person I responded to was talking about total costs because the quote said it was the cost for the whole season

We played 9 softball tournaments this spring, I guarantee it was only about $1,000 - $1,500 for the whole season.
That would be an average of between $110-165 per tournament, per parent.

quote:Am I missing something here? In the world I grew up in, if you can't afford to pay for your kids to do something, then they don't do it. You don't sign them up for it and then go to your neighbor to ask to pay for it.
Chances are a lot of these kid's parents don't have the means to pay for the trip
That's a tacky way to go about in life thinking that way.

quote:exactly. As a High school baseball coach myself. Travel ball is a complete waste of time and money for any kid under the age of 14.
Only 2,000 teams get to make it to a world seres this year.
There's currently about a 75% burnout rate by the time they get to high school.

In the 80s and 90s, my dad got hit up like every week for donations to sports teams and the playground
Don't remember that happening but we did do homerun derby style fund raisers. We'd get friends/family to donate like a nickel for every foot the ball went.

My youngest daughter is in company dance.. We ask for donations, but the Dance Company is a 501c3 so its a tax write off for businesses to advertise and support.. We typically only pursue local businesses to donate, but anyone is open to if the write off is needed..

And I'm ok with that.
It's the "please help send Jaxxsyn and Harrison to the July 2022 Pigeon Forge World Series" that I shake my head at.
Again, if you have the time and money to do it, great! I'd much rather see little kids doing something like team sports than be on the streets getting in trouble. But don't sign up for it in the expectation that a percentage of it will be funded from outside sources while running this narrative that it's so pricey. If it's so pricey, don't do it. Or better yet, pick up a bunch of overtime at work (if you can make OT) and/or a 2nd job or some type of side hustle to pay for it.

It's mainly so the MILFS can stay at the Radisson instead of Motel 6.

They used to be in parking lots washing cars or in front of a store selling cookies or something. I was always willing to help as I wanted to reward the work ethic. Now they stand with their hand out just asking for money. I walk on by.

Funny this topic was started. No more than 15 min ago I get an email from the our dance coach saying that our fundraiser this year is getting business sponsorships to help offset the travel fees to Nationals in 2023. I rarely participate in stuff like this because I don't know a lot of business owners but also because I hate getting asked for money. This is a new fundraiser, every other year we just pay for the kids ourselves.

What are the differences between the World Series in Panama City and the ones in Branson recently that all my friends had kids at?
Also, no, I don’t want to donate to your shitty liquor raffle

Good athletes should be playing multiple sports as well. There's a lot of baseball players that are good but would be great at football if they really dialed into a niche. Basketball is good for developing conditioning, coordination, and quick decision making. Soccer is good for kids as well.
Just having Brayden playing baseball year around is not good, imo. ESPECIALLY if he is a pitcher.

Trashy as frick
U want money for your kid, get ur fricking arse out there and sell candy or shite to make the money for him.
Many of our parents we're stuck selling. Candy bars for us or paying for the ones we ate. Suck it up and shill that candy

It’s funny that this is only said about baseball players
Fact is most kids quit playing dual sports once they get to HS.

My son did year ‘round soccer from 9-13, then started football and track in Jr High (and played soccer through them). He’s year ’round football now in high school…he might play soccer when the school season comes around (and play football through it)…but who knows?
I wish he would have pitched some, but oh well.

I seem to remember fund raisers for our rec Allstar teams to travel in the 90’s
Yeah and that was different. It was the local all star team. Not someone's daddy whose son didn't make one travel team so he decides to start his own travel team and can only get kids to play if they don't have to pay $1000 to join

Because burnout and worn out arms are rampant in baseball. It's a very repetitive sport in terms of motions.
