Why do organizations think they can punk citizens into their beliefs?

For example the MLB moving the all star game over voting ID. Or the NCAA not allowing Mississippi to hold champion events.

I’ve yet to see one of these large companies really suffer from a “boycott.”
They have huge PR departments and run constant customer feedback surveys. They rarely issue a statement without knowing its impact and how it will be perceived in the public and shareholders’ eyes.
And one effect of like-minded social media sites and online enclaves like this one, is you tend to think your opinion is much more common in the greater public than it really is.
