Why do non-Lousiana people say 'Bah-touwn Rooje'

The irony is when I pronounce "baton" in Baton Rouge it's "batun". "Baton" alone is pronounced "bah-touwn".

I don't know why.

You need a lesson in phonetics because I have no clue how you are suggesting "touwn" should sound.

Same reason from Lafayette say laffy et. My wife is from ATL and tries to correct me until we pass that way and everyone says the same thing the same way....dialect!
