Why do most states use salt for road ice instead of sand?

Cheaper? Mob contracts? Screw salt for what it does to vehicles.

Sand simply provides traction and needs to be reapplied after awhile

Salt lowers the freezing point of water from 32 to 28. So it will melt at a lower temp.

I literally have to wash my car weekly tho, if I go all winter and don’t wash I’ll be driving a rust bucket within 5 years. Terrible

Not to mention sand isn't exactly great for vehicles either.

Weekly? Not really.....when I was stationed in Alaska I did it about every 3 or 4 weeks and had no rust when I returned to the CONUS after 3 years.

I’d say weekly is pushing it. It’s just kind of a weekend habit now to get away for a few mins in the winter. Im sure if u don’t let it cake on there for months you’re in good shape.
