I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

Understand that. I'd spend about 30 minutes "cleaning" it and it would look like shite 14 minutes later BUT the hard to get to places in the undercarriage would be clean

Most use a combination of both, or in some cases Magnesium Chloride and Calcium Chloride is used. One can be used before the ice forms, but if applied wrong Magnesium becomes like an ice rink.
