What's the deal?

It really HAS gotten out of hand.

Another step taken by parents who desperately want their child to be friends with them.

If you're a Christian, keep the birth of your Savior at the front of the holiday. If not, what you celebrate'n?

It really is. It's hard for kids to appreciate anything. They want, they get. At some point they have to learn you are not always going to get what you want or that if you want something you have to work for it... Or that Christmas is more than just getting shite.

No shite, but until they don't believe in Santa anymore your cousin Eddie shtick is just dumb.

Make up your mind jackass. Am I a mormon or cousin Eddie? By the way, I am smarter than 90% of the board to that rules me out to be cousin Eddie.

Neither do Mormons in LA, you tard. They're just weird, annoying, and don't get into holidays. Sorry if I've missed the mark in any way.

I don’t mind kids getting tons of gifts. They only get so many Christmas’s as a child. That being said, I have no clue where I am gonna put all of these toys. It looks like a damn Toys R Us in here.

I got into the holidays and I am not weird. There are some weird fricks on here, but I am not one.

It's not just nowadays.

Back in the day of Cabbage Patch Dolls. Friends had a daughter of the age who wanted a, one, not many Cabbage Patch Dolls. Only child of parents who had only one sibling each. Grandparents and counsins well off. The word went out that Christy wanted a cabbage patch and it had already been bought. And Christmas morning, Christy opened her packeages: seven Cabbage Patch Dolls.

Another friend told me about he and his seven best friends and only one was married with one child. That child's parents put the word out that their friends were NOT to go to toy stores and were not to indulge their wishes because their kid didn't need that much stuff at four years of age. (And I'm told they mailed wrapped packages unopened to the two friends who thought they weren't talking about their packages)'

This was thirty years ago, when family sizes were shrinking and incomes were rising.

A long, long way from the O Henry story The Gift of the Magi

I do agree. I'm seeing the amount of stuff kids are getting on my FB feeds and it is insane. One boy has like 30 gifts from Santa...30! Then there are the parent's gifts, then Christmas with each set of grandparents who go bat shite crazy with toys. Kid probably end up with almost 60+ new toys. It doesn't matter if you can afford it. A kid shouldn't get the entire toy store ever Christmas.

I grew up upper middle class and I don't think I received 30 presents total from every relative and yes, my b family liked me.

It's fricking insane.

Too many people do shite for their kids in order to show off on social media.

My kids are 26,21anf almost 18. Older two got things that they needed like new dress shirts and a book sack. Oh and I got one a beer pong set and one a tic tac toe drinking game. Lol. Dtr got a new phone and new inexpensive earrings. Definitely not overkill.

It’s always been a mix of things that they need and some want items.
