Why do ISPs universally have such shitty customer service?

Doesn’t matter if it’s AT&T, Shitcast/Xfinity, Time Warner, Cox, etc. Just seems like every single ISP has god awful customer service and almost goes out of its way to screw people over. Is there no incentive with these providers to satisfy their customers?

Time Warer/Spectrum was terrible. ATT is light years ahead of them IMO, but still bad

It is a monopoly or oligopoly depending on where you are.

As a result you get a lot of “Yeah, where else you gonna go?” from them.

Because its luxury service most people cant live without, so your options are limited. They expect you to leave for another company only to return a year later.

I think Eatel is amazing.

Kid had an issue with COD. They set up a static IP in 5 minutes.

For the most part, no, they don't. Most ISPs are government sanctioned regional monopolies with little to no competition. They even often have the lobbying power at the state level to block local city governments from setting up their own competing ISPs.

I treat people with kindness and respect.

Maybe you're the problem.

There was a court ruling a long time ago about whether time warner had to give up access to the lines they have already laid because it’s a monopoly or whether other companies would have to lay their own. Congress elected that time warner did not have to give up access to their lines in the hope it would lead to innovation but it didn’t seem to work out. Europe did the opposite of what we did and required that the company give up access to their line and they have much better service and it’s much cheaper. There is a great planet money episode on it.

That was 1 thing I agreed with Obama on... the fricking shite choice options we have here are horrible.

$70 for 10-12mb DL land .5 UL <- suddenlink cable.. and that's the fastest option they have in town

Or $75 12-15 mb DL and .5 UL <- Centurylink DSL

10 years ago in college I had 50 mb DL an 25 UL for 19.99 in the city.

The worst part with Suddenstink is they Upped my bill to $70 - Originally at 52 and change.. the reason "expanding infrastructure".

They have not upgraded the lines in these rural towns since they've put them in. They are only servicing the city residents with infrastructure but charging ALL the country side users!!!! WTF kind of shite is that.

I'm fricked either way. If you live outside the city you know exactly what I'm talking about.
