Same here. My first car was a black 94 Explorer with a 3 in. lift, looked just like the one below. It was a good looking and reliable vehicle that the ladies loved at the time, been looking to get another one as a toy to keep around.
It's hard to beat the mid to late 90s SUVs, particularly the Explorers, K5 Blazers, and 4runners of that era. I would totally buy a new "reincarnation" of a boxy 90s SUV if someone made one today.

Cars are less colorful than they used to be. No more two-tones. All cars are either white, black, or some tone of grey/silver.

Manufacturers have simply catered to what buyers want. They all still offers plenty of bright colors. Most people just don't buy them.

This is the correct answer.
In the 1970s federal rules called the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards were created, which requires new vehicles to average better and better miles per gallon each year.
The Obama administration sort of revived and championed these rules after the auto bailouts, as a part of overall climate change policy. Trump has shown interest in rolling them back.
These MPG calculations are fleet-wide, so if a manufacturer has a really good selling 18 MPG truck, they also need many more highly efficient economy cars to balance their numbers and meet the CAFE requirements.
There are only so many ways to make these cars more fuel efficient while also meeting modern crash safety requirements, so this tends to make them all look very similar.

Yeah, they just as well buy a minivan. More practical, just as fun to drive, just as generic.
