French were overthrowing oppression, a style of being governed etc. very passionate about the cause and the need for bloodshed to changes the status quo

The Brits actually had wars with France, Spain, and the Dutch concurrent with the Revolutionary war.

One was based on socialism, the other was based on democracy

Because the French Revolution was more of a civil war. Not quite the same but think how bloody our civil war was.

The American Revolution in the South was mostly a civil war.

They ended up with another dictator within a few years.

They had no real end goals

I’m not saying you’re wrong. But socialism vs democracy had nothing to do with the bloodiness of those two wars. Or, the reasons why they revolted in the first place.

Agreed but they did not foresee that coming I don’t think. 3rd estate was tired of paying all the taxes why the monarchs lived lavishly and sending the country into debt

Yea i imagine its difficult to form a government of the people when all the monarchs are banding together to attack you since they are afraid of the revolution spreading across the continent and interrupting their oppressive rule.

Yeah, I just figured we all knew how the two governments ended up after the wars were over so I didn’t bother asking about that aspect of it.

Unpopular fact: we would not have won the revolution without the French. I guess they weren't always known as pussies.

They didn’t get the surrender monkey nickname until WWII. They conquered Europe under Napoleon. Fought like absolute hell in WWI and during that war took casualties that essentially demoralized and decimated their population.

It was the french’s Lack of technological foresight in both WWI and WWI that was heir undoing. It just that the Germans we quite literally so fast in WWII that the French could not defend themselves, and hence surrendered.

I’ve heard that what the English spoke then was more like how we speak here. Anyone know about this?
