Says you, I spend a lot of time outside and the wide brim could be a staple at some social events

Same reason nobody wears a suit to a baseball game any more. Times change. Less is more. Sloppy is OK.
People don't even wear coats and ties to church any more. I went to a funeral last year in West Monroe and was the only non-funeral home lay person there who had on a suit.

If I was a hat manufacturer I would sign Eric Decker to a long term endorsement deal and watch the orders roll in.

You couldn't find a better example? Humphrey looks too damn feminine in that photo.
Bogart has fricked more women in a weekend than you have in a lifetime

Part of me wishes that style would return despite that it takes away from comfort. I think taking pride in how you present yourself is important and sort of mirrors the pride you take in how you live your life. But if you showed up in a suit to a game these days you'd be looked at as a clown.

Society has strictly gone more casual. Go to some of Chicago's more well known establishments. Few require a coat and/or tie. Today's generation has strictly gone more casual.

AS a fashion statement - because fashions change. They will probably come back in style at some point.
Hats are still used fairly regularly by people for functional reasons - farmers, baseball players, hunters, fishermen, welders, construction workers, etc.

Very simple. It doesn't rain near as much now as it did back then...global warming.

Because JFK didn't wear a hat.
"Mad Men" actually touched on that in their first season.

Personally I like hats. I wear them quite a bit. Don't have time to worry with what others think.

Got tickets to TFA on opening night BUT turned out I had to go to a Christmas party that required one to wear a suit. Had to go from one to the other without time to change.
So date and I show up at movie totally dressed up. Was kind of cool, like the old days.
