They are doing this in one of the big cities in Italy. Common sense. Drops the temperature around the city around 5 degrees. Will also in turn save money from not needing quite as much electric

I read an article awhile back that said the small city decided to start planting trees in the median, around the parks, government buildings and encouraged residents to plant trees in their yards. This caused the temperature in the small city to drop by 5 degrees.
I wish I would have saved the article or link.

Can you imagine how stained white shingles or roofs would get here in south Louisiana with all the dirt, dust, and pollen?

They used to sell them back in 1975 ish. Used them on a house I helped repair the roof. Looked like puke 2 years later.

Getting Algae Off My Roof

Found the linked article while searching for the use of zinc to keep algae off of a roof. The zinc or copper needs to remain unfinished, not painted or coated.

Not mentioned in the article is to verify that the metal used is compatible with other metals or there will be galvanic corrosion. There are compatibility charts that can be found online.

Galvanized sheet metal roofs in light colors should be more popular.

Metal roofs should be standard within 100 miles of the coast and in any tornado prone areas.

They are better in every measurable way than asphalt shingles and I suspect insurers will start to push people that way.

houses/buildings in Flarda use lightweight concrete tiles in lighter colors. They do well and look nice, but look like shite after 5 yrs of dust, smog, mildew build up.

I live in a neighborhood with these on every house. You just have to chemical pressure wash every 3-4 years, cost around $300 (bout tree fiddy for the OT). But apparently homeowners carriers are starting to frick with the reimbursement because they are expensive to replace.

Asbestos roof tiles baw hope you didn’t breathe that shite.
It wasn’t tiles and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t asbestos.

It was a very thick liquid that was spread on the roof and dried hard. I’ve never seen it anywhere else and have no idea what it was made of.

What’s the costs of a metal roof versus a typical shingle roof? 50% more?

I may could go for some lighter color metal roofs. White shingles would be a pain in the arse.

I don’t consider it that way. And I’ve never been a believer in global warming. But we just had the road in front of the house blacktopped. The heat reflected off it makes it unbearable to walk on. That made me think of the millions of miles of earth that has been concreted and blacktopped. That has got to be making a difference in earth’s temperature .

I had my roof replaced a few months ago. When I asked about colors my roofer mentioned his FIL went with white. He said after about a year he asked if it helped with the electric bill. The FIL said "Not at all, and now I have this ugly arse roof!"
