Same reason they don't make the entire airplane like the black box

The same reason they don't give you a parachute for a commercial flight.

While it's big news when one goes down, statistically it's not really much of a risk.

Not trying to make you feel worse but your child getting transported to school leads to more deaths.

There are 55 million students in the US and 139,000 schools. LINK Remember, an average of 18 per year get killed from these school shootings, and of those 127 deaths in 133 school shootings, over half of the deaths were concentrated in just 10 out of the 133 incidents. Every other shooting had between 2 and zero deaths. I'm not trying to belittle the death of any child, I'm just saying some sort of bullet proof lock down ability would only have made a big difference in 10 out of 139,000 schools yet you want all 139,000 schools to spend money for this.

Let's assume the cost was $1,000 per school, which honestly seems absurdly low. That's $139 million. That money would probably be better spent giving it to Google and Facebook to do the creepy invasive things they do detecting people's moods and intent and flagging students in need of some intervention/support.

That is an insane expense for something that is super uncommon. Based on wikipedia, it appears there were approximately 120 shootings at schools (high school down to elementary school) since the year 2000. That's an average of 7 per year. For the entire US. And, looking at the synopsis of them, the vast majority occurred in parking lots or places like that after a fight broke out...situations where a safe room wouldn't do a damn thing. You'd literally be forcing schools to pay millions of dollars for a room that would almost assuredly never get used. Your kids are perfectly safe at school.

Theres a private school in Florida selling kids bullet proof inserts for their backpacks at $120 a pop. Sadly, that's probably a good idea these days
