How far back in "before" do you wish to go? Originally, prairie dominated our part of the country more so than wooded property. Semi-open praries are some of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet, yet we've destroyed most of them in our country.

We have been but all the wild fires keep burning them down.

It used to be a thing many years ago. It fell out of fashion.
Also, one of the popular carbon offsets that people used to buy involved seeding algae blooms way out in the ocean that sucked up Co2.

Come to think of it, it’s been a while since I’ve seen a good tree hugger. Funny how trendy these people are with their crusades, hopping from one doomsday scenario to another without even skipping a beat.

The funny thing is you have companies claiming to be some green biomass fuels companies literally chopping down trees and burning them to create electricity.

Enviva would be an obvious example. Of course they claim they plant more to replace what they cut down but it seems like a counter productive measure in the first place.
We should be (and are to a small extent) ramping up nuclear power if we're worried about emissions.

Global acreage burned has been trending down for quite a few years now.

Because it ain't got shite to do with the environment.

You know, if it were me, and I were so driven by fear of our carbon footprint on the planet, I’d be super busy planting as many trees as I could, and encouraging everyone else to do the same
#1 reason,
It's an "all-about-me" show. Their persona is more important to them than the cause. They are unable & unwilling to be part of the solution.
The solution would require them to do something - there's no clicks in that.

How do you know they're not?
There are TONS of organizations that plant trees. This one planted 52,000,000 trees last year.
There are hundreds of these organizations.

The main issue here is that trees would have to be planted by the billions
Already happening (although I think deforestation is outpacing it)

mature trees at that.
Now that's the tough part

Maybe I'm in the minority on this nugget, but I recently learned that C02 makes up 0.04% of the earth's atmosphere. Not 40%, not 4%, .04%....four hundredths of one percent.
And human's contribution is a fraction of that, but we're lead to believe that our contribution to that trace amount in the atmosphere is what is going to destroy life on our planet. Something about that just seems incredibly unlikely to me.
And the united states share of that is around .00008% of the CO2 in the atmosphere. Water vapor is and has always been a greater driving factor for climate than CO2. More CO2 is actually healthier for the planet and life in general.

All one needs is a good, healthy pecan tree and about 5 squirrels. No work required.
I wager that more trees, by a wide margin, are "planted" naturally every year than by human efforts. One forgetful squirrel can "plant" 20-30 a year at least. Then, throw in wind, water, and other animals, and you can see how that could be the case.
Once again, we can't compete with Nature.
No doubt, but I can, with a push mower, wipe out an entire colony of squirrels and birds and errant breezes tree production in one application. Apply one dose of DOT project or a simple spritz of housing development and the work of an entire county or parish of squirrels is wiped out. Man is absolutely deforesting the planet faster than nature and man combined can replace those trees. The evidence is abundantly and inarguably established.

Yes it is. This is not global warming we are talking about. It is deforestation. All you have to do is look at current versus historical satellite imagery...it is noticeable and would only be denied by an obtuse moron.

And Bill Gates said he was cutting trees down for climate change benefit. LOL he's just plain EVIL

It’s much easier to sit in the middle of the road and cry.
These people don’t actually care about the environment, they’re just miserable POS who wake up every morning with a goal to make everyone else as miserable as they are.

The evidence is abundantly and inarguably established that the planet has been greening for decades, thanks in part to tree-planting initiatives.
Of course, climate cultists say it won't stop climate change and will actually make things worse.

yes, there are fewer trees on the planet this year than there were last year. Math is and has been settled for many many years.....
