Torx screws do everything better and are now available. The design of the phillips screw inherently causes the screwdriver to cam out of the slots if you try to tighten and damages the screw making the situation even worse.

Is this big screwdriver industry just trying to sell more tools?

"Cheer up Mugantu, at least we are not like Americans who must deal with screw heads they don't like."

If you were dealing with a stuck bolt would you rather the bolt have a phillips or torx head?

I rest my case.

When I was a little kid my dad asked me to get him a philips screwdriver. So I went next door and borrowed a flat blade screw driver from the neighbor, Mr. Phillips.

I can't stand flat head screws for anything except receptacle cover plates but Phillips do have their place.

Torx should be more popular than it is, I agree but sometimes a torx is a bad idea when you want to make sure the installer doesn't over-tighten it.

We should have had common senseTorque reform back in the 80’s man. It’s pretty much too late now with Philips heads fastening approx. 90% of things to other things.

TORX is still better. Phillips is better than flat head.

I'd rather have a hex head bolt tbh

Screw heads are designed the way they are so that you cannot apply too much torque to them. Phillips are made to slip out just like slotted is made to slip out

What's even better is the kind with a 5/16 head on it where you can just use a socket drive on a drill

Where possible, I use a square bit in Phillips head screws.

Now, besides the softness of the metal and the size of the slots, the Phillips head screws also vary in the angle of the opening. In other words, Phillips heads are not all equal in shittyness. Some are quite shittier than others.

For all the time I spend rummaging through my tools for the Phillips with the correct fit, it’s much easier to use my handy bit driver in the case with the organized bits, even for the Phillips head bits.

Phillips head screws were designed for use with screw guns for production line assembly duty because they can be driven with a slight angular misalignment and are faster than slotted screws. For home use other types such as socket head and torx are better.

phillips and flat head screws need to go the way of the dodo bird and get the frick off this planet!

Torx are king but the torx bits 10 and under suck balls, as they seem to strip out so easily.

You just don't have old man strength to force it in there.

FWIW, I'm not entirely joking.

Torx is superior

very true but the square head or allen head is 10x better then a torx because a very tight/stuck torx will still strip out where an allen head is far more resistant to stripping and a square head is the least likely to strip before the head just snaps off
