I have, what I assume will be, an unpopular theory.

I think they imitate urban blacks because they want to be “hard” and they perceive the urban blacks as a “rougher” or more intimidating crowd (legitimately or not).

Most “trashy” people deal with poverty and with poverty comes the propensity for a poor childhood and the resulting psychological issues that make them have a low self esteem.

People with low self esteem do things to try to feel good about themselves. The middle class kid with low self esteem can be a skater, goth, etc., but a poor kid might not be able to afford hair dye, piercings, or a skateboard. Acting “hard” is a way many poor kids manufacture self esteem on a budget because a white t-shirt, jeans and some thug vernacular is all they need.
