've been lucky in the few vehicles I've owned to not have any major issues, but for what vehicles cost worrying about whether your new car or truck is going to start falling apart in a year is nuts.

Only an idiot believes this. Todays cars are so much safer, reliable and well built than cars built just ten years ago that it isn't even close. A 2017 Kia , any make, will last as long as a 2000 Mercedes of any make, etc etc.

Obviously random issues arise, but the notion that some makes and models are just junk is pure poppycock.

It hurts me to say this but, don’t buy American. The big three make inferior products to the quality import brands. Chrysler being by far the worst of the big three.

False and uneducated.

Toyota, Mercedes,BMW, Honda,Hyundai, etc ALL build cars right here in the US.

Chyrsler products have been either Mercedes or Fiat based for the last 15 years, and neither of those brands have a reputation for poor quality. Maybe just maybe the Chrysler reputation is based on pre 2000s cars, in fact they are for sure. Chrysler builds cars that will last 100K miles easily just as all other major manufacturers do.

My parallel parking assist doesn't work, and my adaptive cruise control is hit or miss. UGHHH, today's cars suck compared to my 96 Accord!!!!

Sold a 2000 4Runner less than a month and a half ago. Had power windows, leather, installed a Bluetooth radio and changed out the wood grain dash accents for piano black aftermarket versions from 3M. But otherwise? Nothing but regular routine maintenance.

Bought it from a buddy’s next door neighbor whose wife drove it as a soccer Mom for 6 years and put about 130K on it.

Sold it with 247K. Daily driver that made vacation trips and an approximate 50 mile round trip down I-12 and I-10 to work and back during morning and afternoon drive time.

Bought it for $5,300. Solid it for a G. 10 years, almost 150K Miles AFTER it rolled over the 100K+ mark. Cost me $430/year to own outside of gas/maintenance.

You can go by a 2005-2008 Land Cruiser right now with about 120-150K Miles on it that will easily double that mileage total while giving you tons of modern amenities without the premium of new car pricing for ~$20-30K.

They are out there but you gotta open your eyes,

Well that's not true.

I know you have your personal anecdote that influences what you're saying, but the statistics typically back up Toyota reliability.

All day long. If you want to see it in action hang out at a FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) service waiting lounge or service drive.

That's not saying FCA doesn't have good people, good engineers. But they have been robbed of their ability to invest in quality products by their owners over the years. First it was Daimler-Benz, then it was Cerberus Capital (Private Equity) and now Fiat. Mercedes and Fiat sold these deals to the US regulators as mergers but were in reality Chrysler was owned and controlled. In all of these deals the controlling entities sucked all of the profits out of the American Auto operations into other areas. It's a shame but true.

Cars are like any other industry. The manufacturers are simply making a product, car in this case, as cheaply as it can and sell it for as much as it can.
The companies can't control the selling price, that's controlled by the customer. So, they control their costs. They will nickel and dime every one of their 100 suppliers to cut costs, therefore the suppliers will have to do the same.
Since we are stuck with quasi lazy American assembly workers, the main way suppliers cut costs is by cheapening the material costs.

Even though this is statistically true, the gap is extremely narrow. The quality of all car brands is insanely high.

because they use the lowest bidder for everything right down to the door knobs so its 90% china crap assembled in mexico for slave wages then they sell those vehicles that cost $15k to build, for $75k and the idiots still line up to buy them

if you are smart, its better to find a 70's -80's truck, or even a 90's truck, and do a frame off restoration like new with a new crate ebngine and trany for $50k and you have 1000 times better built and better value truck

Granted, Toyota puts out quality and reliable vehicles, but at a higher price and they have some issues related to just about every model also. Less than most, but they have them.

Every auto manufacturer has problems with certain parts not being reliable because of either poor design or substandard materials.

I use this website called carcomplaints.com. when I'm looking at vehicles I'm not too familiar with at auctions. It'll give you a good idea of what to look for when looking at used cars.

VERY VERY few new vehicles spend most of their life being repaired. That's just a silly claim.

There aren't. Even a Ford Focus or Mitsubishi Mirage can go 100,000 miles on basically nothing but routine maintenance today.

especially with models that have been around awhile (Grand Cherokee)

The Grand Cherokee is one of Chrysler Corporation's best vehicles. It's certainly better than the Fiat-based Jeeps. They spend a lot of money keeping it updated and competitive - and it shows.

It's definitely a good car and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one or recommend it to friends. Chrysler itself isn't known for making rock solid products, but both Ram Trucks and the higher end Jeeps are definitely their best products.

It's hilarious to me that so many luxury brands have a reputation for such poor reliability.

British ones in particular.

There is also a difference between poor reliability and high maintenance. BMW is high maintenance. They are not unreliable. The American and Japanese luxury brands are typically lower maintenance and cheaper to own than the European brands. Probably because North Americans can and do drive longer distances between maintenance intervals than most Europeans.

it's not a claim. just saying that a warranty doesn't mean the vehicle is reliable.
