Every vehicle I buy from here on out will be made by the Japanese.

Toyota is the way to go.

can go by a 2005-2008 Land Cruiser right now with about 120-150K Miles on it that will easily double that mileage total while giving you tons of modern amenities without the premium of new car pricing for ~$20-30K.

I like new stuff too much for that. I respect and understand your position fully, but life is about choices. And while I know the"correct" financial decision is what you suggest, having a newer car is just one of those things I enjoy.

I once heard that auto companies are now actually into banks. They sell the cars to get you locked into a loan and paying them interest. They don’t care about their crap product.

Tesla, on the other hand....

Of course they do, as do pretty much all manufacturers. However, their failure rates are still significantly higher per specified number of units produced versus other makes.

It's not some big setup against Chrysler products. Save for the Ram and the higher-end Jeeps, they are widely acknowledged as one of the least reliable brands on the market.

This simply isn't the case, and actual facts prove you're entirely wrong.

Their are a few categories that Chyrsler builds cars that are at the lower end of the segment , but the overall lineup is not nearly as bad as is being portrayed here, and further despite it's OT reputation the Ram 1500 is one of the lower ranked 1/2 tons and one of Chrysler's least reliable vehicles overall.

Where are Toyota vehicles assembled for the U.S. market?

Our 2014 model year vehicles are assembled in the following locations:
Model Manufacturing Location
4Runner Japan
Avalon Georgetown, Kentucky
Avalon Hybrid Georgetown, Kentucky
Camry Georgetown, Kentucky and Lafayette, Indiana
Camry Hybrid Georgetown, Kentucky
Corolla Cambridge, Ontario, Canada and Blue Springs, Mississippi
FJ Cruiser Japan
Highlander Princeton, Indiana
Highlander Hybrid Princeton, Indiana
Land Cruiser Japan
Prius [1] Japan
RAV4 Woodstock, Ontario, Canada and Japan
RAV4 EV Woodstock, Ontario, Canada
Sequoia Princeton, Indiana
Sienna Princeton, Indiana
Tacoma San Antonio, Texas and Baja California, Mexico
Tundra San Antonio, Texas
Venza Georgetown, Kentucky
Yaris Japan

The your choices are FJ Cruiser Yaris, 4Runner, and Prius.

The rest of the Toyotas sold here are built outside of Japan.

Interesting because the Highlander, the Camry, the Tundra and the Sienna are all built in the US and have pristine reputations.

Define "last". Any car can last forever in theory as long as parts are available to fix it.

Seen freaking Toyotas that are 5 - 6 years old start to fall apart. How about several MBenzs that crap out within 3 - 4 years.
Autos are built like junk today.

Oh, really? What, exactly, did you look at? I just tried "compact", "midsize", "large" cars and "small", "midsize", and "large" SUVs and ALL have the Chrysler product at or very near the bottom.

However, one only needs to look at the "minivan" segment to know that those ratings are a joke. You've got the T&C and Grand Caravan at number 2 and 3 (Sienna rightfully at number 1) and the Odyssey in last place? Literally NO reputable publication who has reviewed them would agree with that. Consumer Reports, Motor Trend, etc. Sorry, man.

There are a lot. As in most of them. What are you looking at that doesn't reflect that?

I drove an '89 Suburban that only had a 5 digit odometer! Think about how insane that is. GMC didn't expect a damn Suburban to cross 100k with any regularity.

I got a new Chevy Nova in 1973, it was burning oil at 50,000 miles and I had to upgrade the radio to something loud enough to hear over all the rattles and squeaks. Any car sold today is a thousand times more reliable than any 70s care. The typical warranty on a new car back then was 12,000 miles, there was a reason for that

Figured someone would be along to post something like this. Yes, i'm aware that a lot of Toyota factories are in the US.

Hilarious that you both try to say that the Dodges being rated lower in some categories proves they are junk and that the ratings are a joke because the dodge minivans are rated high LOL

JD Powers is recognized as the experts on this subject fool.

Here's a little more insight into how little this board knows about the topic. The RAM truck is praised here as one of the best Chrysler products and one of the best trucks overall, but in actuality it turns out that Rams had more reported problems per 100 vehicles than Chrysler did from 2006-2016

LINK

And ALL of the Chrysler lines beat out Honda who no one would call junk.

The actual numbers prove what I have posted on here several times, ALL Manufacturers today build quality cars across the board. The VERY worst car manufacturer selling cars in the US had 216 reported problems for every 100 cars sold.

That isn't 216 major problems either, that is 216 problems no matter how minor.

Many of these brands survive off of customer loyalty. Pretty much all the U.S. brands are unreliable clunkers after about 80k miles but many people are leasing these vehicles so they never learn how crappy they are and they also refuse to buy anything thats not "Amercian" regardless of the fact that many of the "foreign" cars are actually made here in the U.S. by U.S. citizens and many of the "American" brands are made in Mexico by Mexicans.

Brands to never buy...

Land Rover (I currently own one)
Jaguar
Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge (not including the Wrangler)
Lotus
GM
VW

Brands that are okay but there are typically better options...

Audi
Ford (excluding the F-250/350 as no other brands really offer a reliable alternative to. If I was in the market for a heavy duty work truck this is what I would buy. Well, maybe a customized Mitsubishi Fuso or Isuzu NPR)
Nissan
Saab

Brands that are worth buying under special circumstances(such as, you work on them yourself or have access to cheap parts)...

MB (I currently own one)
BMW
Subaru
Volvo
Porsche

Brands that the majority of people should consider...

Honda/Acura (I currently own one)
Toyota/Lexus
Mazda (VERY UNDERRATED)
Infiniti
Hyundai
Kia
Suzuki
Isuzu

I was close to retracting that. There are other options like the S2000 but youre right. There arent really comparables. Ill put a special notation or remove it.

Buy a Land Rover, BMW,and Mercedes today and I can almost guarantee by 100-120K miles, one would have to pay thousands in repairs.

Land Rover for sure.

BMW is hit or miss and so is MB to a lesser extent. Also, MB used to be top notch but they had a string of lemons in the 2000's that hurt their reliability rep. All signs say they have ironed this out. We shall see.

FYI, all "luxury" brands are typically going to have a higher percentage of problems because they defy the K.I.S.S. principal and are typically over engineered, especially the German brands. That doesnt mean you cant have you cake and eat it too as some models and M.Y. are solid and the Japanese luxury brands do well too.

I’m not talking about the point of manufacture. I’m talking about the place where these companies are located. We all know that the big three in Detroit are inferior to imports.
