that depends on where you live. There are some excellent public schools, just not in the big cities. Many of the privates are not too great academically either but they don't have to deal with problem kids.

Seems like these rural public schools also have a certain demographic that aligns with the views of most who would send their kids to private school anyway. Bottom line the middle/upper class don’t want their kids with poors who don’t give a shite about their education. The truth is I don’t blame those who send their kids to private ill probably do the same with my kids it’s just funny seeing how defensive Louisiana folks get on the subject btw most private schools actually have worse teachers than public there mostly all old teachers who’ve already retired from public and just want another check. The fact that private schools do better than public is more of a testament to the parents and kids themselves than it is the private school system. I know because I work in education

Definitely not true in LA. LA’s system is very constrained on hiring (especially at the HS level) in a bad way. You have to have an education degree or get an equivalent certificate to teach in a public school.

Wait your saying that most public schools require an education degree or equivalent certificate and this makes them worse teachers than private?? What?? that’s kinda proving my point if that’s not mandatory at private

Leading question. My answer is education is important in Louisiana. You can't have too many schools.

Most privates require that their teachers at the HS level have a degree in what they teach.

Would you rather your 17 year old in AP Physics be taught by someone who has a degree in physics or someone with a degree in secondary education?

Yes....public schools in Louisiana today are more similar to penitentiaries than schools.

I didn’t say every. But the most of the really good private HS in LA have a requirement similar to this.

Not true for those schools I’m referencing

Private schools usually have mostly advance degree teachers. Parochial schools often have teachers with little or no formal advanced education.

Because people from Louisiana don’t understand the difference between parochial and private schools it gets kind of confusing.

Lets try this tact Sport.
Why don't you move your family down here and put your children in public school.
Then you can tell us...

I went to a public school where a lot of my peers moved to private or small rural public schools for basically the same reason here in Arkansas. Everyone thought my parents were dumb for not sending me to a different school because the school I was going to had went down hill in the last 15 years but it was the same school one of my parents had went to and they still believed in them, and most importantly my parents cared about my education and made sure I learned.Well I graduated made a 26 on the act graduated with a degree and am doing what I’ve always wanted whereas most of the private school kids either dropped out of college or never went at all but hey at least there parents made sure they didn’t spend any time around “hood rats”

You're getting a lot of pushback on this, but prior to the sixties, most whites in NOLA went to public schools

It was a larger city back then with no suburbs. The Catholic schools were still numerous and busy. People moved to the suburbs to raise families and even then, still put their kids into catholic schools rather than the new white public schools.

Btw, has anyone yet explained St. Augustine if this is because of race?

Also, explain why parents during the 60s-80s in white St. Bernard would send their kids to Holy Cross in a decaying neighborhood when Chalmette High was right there in a nicer area.
