Just ignore him and the hyperbole.

You're basing this simply off of what, immigrants? Because Texas is nothing like Cali as a whole.
well TX does bend over and spread it to get every business they can to relocate to TX, a lot of good for the state but also a lot of footing the bill for the give aways by John Q. Taxpayer

Texas has no personal income tax. But on the other hand, property taxes are out the wazzu.

So, you're essentially shackled to a state with little job opportunities for 4 or 5 years?
No thanks then. I'd rather just pay the in-state tuition rather than be hamstrung by the state of Louisiana.

very true, before I moved to TX I lived in FL, another state with "no" personal income tax, my property taxes here are twice what they were in FL, but blee me when I say, there may be no personal income tax in these states but they know how to extract it from you in just about every other conceivable way

true enough but property taxes are levied locally which in turn lends itself to local control of governmental and school services. The thing we have to be wary of is the Texas Legislature passing unfunded mandates to local municipalities.
Texas also has $12 billion in its rainy day fund

I left Louisiana for Texas twice - once after LSU and once after grad school.
I didn't want to, but there's really no decent supply of high paying jobs in LA. I was wasting my degree in LA and underemployed.
Got an offer in Texas that payed 170% of what I was making along with no state income tax, lower sales taxes and not of the bullshite that comes with living in a state that can't/ won't fix itself.
Pretty easy decision.
Oh, and there are way more attractive females here that haven't already been married or knocked up

Then you blow up TOPS all together. It's become a bear for taxpayers to fund every year and businesses are taking the hit with all the unnecessary taxes brought on them to help cover the cost. That's why businesses (jobs) are fleeing the state for greener pastures.

shite, in my last house of 12 yrs was avg. 4.0 prooerty tax! in Htown, i.e 5500$ for a 160k home....plus HOA at 900.....they get you one way or the other!

Transplants is nothing new to Texas whatsoever and it's not digging in to the Red State constituency percentages even now. I can't even foresee being Purple, honestly.

These 3 are the main reasons. If you value jobs, getting something for your tax contribution, and good schools, while not caring about being bland and having no identity, Texas is better than Louisiana.
I'm not knocking those who choose to move to Texas, as it's most likely the correct decision, I'm just not ready to sell my soul yet.

or no bid gubment contracts to their cronies, or the former governor, and current AG being under felony indictment, or the current governor making himself a millionaire by suing everything he could after a freak accident, then pushing to change laws to prevent anyone else from doing the same, or blah, blah, blah, could go on and on, people rag on LA about shady politicians but TX is in a class by itself in that category

Texas cities are attractive right now because you get a big job market with relatively low cost of living and taxes. However, something's gonna give eventually. Housing prices are increasing, immigrants are moving in, politics are turning from red to blue, and so on.

I just came back from a week in Texas Hill country, driving all the back roads. It's so over-rated. All those clear streams and rolling hills and pleasing vistas. Who would want that shite when you can hang out with the Old School G's in Baton Rudge.

Fed tax deductible sans the HOA total.
