Apparently you feel that these things only exist in NOLA.
Never said that and no I dont but ask anyone who has traveled around the U.S. and there arent many or any other cities anything like NOLA and its widespread, all over the city not just in a specific "district".

Locally owned businesses? Plenty of those all over the US, especially in TX.
Dude. NOLA didnt get its first Home Depot until like 1994. Didnt get a Lowes until the 2000's. Didnt get a Walmart until the 90's. Etc. My point is the city isnt built on big box stores like Texas is. NOLA commerce relies WAY more on local business than most other U.S. cities and certainly more than any other large U.S. cities.

I mean, are you planning on raising kids in that shithole too?
No. I live in St. Tammany but other than public schools what does NOLAs problems have to do with raising kids? Some of the coolest, most interesting people I know grew up in Orleans Parish. Not Jefferson. Not St. Tammany. Not St. Charles. It may have changed but when I was in school NOPS had a bunch of the worst schools in the nation but the few good ones were WAY better than any in the surrounding parishes whether public OR private. Namely, McMain, Ben Franklin, Lusher, Hynes. I went to public schools in Jefferson, two different private schools in Jefferson and two different public schools in Orleans. The two in Orleans were WAY fricking better than any of the schools in Jefferson.

Is this the part where I ask where you lived in New Orleans and you respond Metairie?

If you are smart and driven and want to build shite and run shite; basically if you desire to be a big swinging dick, you go to Texas. All the little political feifdoms and good old boy networks in LA are hilarious and are the reason why businesses and people leave and don't come back.

Potholes
Corrupt and ineffective politicians
Inbred thinking patterns
Taxes
Culcha
Limited job opportunities
public schools
Crime
Trash thrown everywhere and left to rot or blow away
Environmental degradation
Rampant ignorance and poverty
My family and I moved away from NOLA in 1984. It was hard - culture shock at first and homesickness set it.
Weathered it. Realized what and who we loved most about "home" is gone, dead, never really existed or no longer exists.
Life in KY, GA, and now FL is light years ahead of LA today.

Institutional prestige is a very highly overrated phenomenon. Living in the northeast I can tell you 2/3 of the adult professionals I knew there could tell you the difference between LSU, ULL, or SLU. I once had some one who worked at an admissions office at a college ask me what was L.S.U.. She was not aware that meant Louisiana State University.
Also in the northeast, people are less "school envy" of Ivy League schools because there are more people around who possess a degree from there.

There is a reasons 10% of all people born in Louisiana move to Texas.
It's staggering the amount of people in Texas from Louisiana.
Better paying jobs and a lot more jobs available is one main reason
and school system is light years ahead of Louisianas is another reason.
Then you factor in a cheaper cost of living. No state income taxes balances out with property taxes, however, you get a lot in return with great schools from higher property taxes.

Do you really need to ask this? If life in general were neighborhoods, Texas would be CCLA and BR would be Blvd De Province.
