Why are some of you biased regarding crime and punishment?

I've noticed several threads on here about teachers sleeping with underaged students. The general attitude on here is one of indifference. However if it's another victimless crime, such as drug usage, only then is it inappropriate.

I believe that if a law is broken, then there should be justice. Even if it's a victimless crime, you be fair in your judgment. Either you punish all people who commit it equally or not at all.

I realize repeat offenders need tougher punishments. But that doesn't mean that the punishment should be out of bounds or more harsh than the crime itself.

EDIT: I should be specific. Drugs that I am referencing are those proven to have medicinal or recreational with proper sanitation (ie not cut with another substance). Cannibus and its derivatives fall into this category.

Drugs with proven detrimental effects need to be legalized BUT APPROPRIATED BY THE STATE for consumers.

I don't consider people *using* drugs like Heroin, Meth, etc. to be a victimless crime so I will always be against them. I don't think you will find many people here against marijuana. Just using the term "drug" is quite stupid. Be specific if you want to get a debate going.

I believe that all crimes should have a victim and the punishments should be severe. All drugs should be legalized.

My favorite are the white collar criminal threads:

Drug usage is much worse then banging. People on drugs wreck vehicles and kill innocent folks, steal to support the habit...

I think you are mistaken....people here are pretty damn harsh on teachers who sleep with their students, etc. Sure, there area slapdicks here that make jokes about it, but the general attitude is pretty damn stout.

For your example you compare different crimes. Why would you expect the same punishments? I don't understand your argument.

This place isn’t reality for most here. Take it with a grain of salt.

Guys like to put themselves into the role. Wishing they had been presented with the situation. Every dude remembers being a teen and fapping.

Nobody wants a male highschool teacher trying to frick them. Most of the time you're hoping they never get any, even from their spouse.

Typically those crimes are more nuanced than some thug popping another thug and it takes a while for all the facts to completely come out.

Typically the the Feds (when not being political) only come after you officially when they have you dead to rights.

I’m not, as long as the student is a boy and 14+ and it was consensual. And don’t give me that legal fiction that a minor can’t consent. Minors drive cars and have jobs.

Only poor people steal to support their habit. Ever hear of a doctor committing a carjacking to support his cocaine habit?

Yea, like the thread about Aunt Becky and the buying college admissions scandal.

No one had fun at their expense.

weed and beer is the same, there is no difference except beer is worse, the law was political and has no bearing on the factual evidence of what it does to people

other drugs are addictive and harmful and those should remain illegal

teachers fricking students should not get different punishment solely based on the sex or how good looking the teacher is.

teachers should not be allowed to teach students within 15 years of their own age, its ridiculous and the main cause of teachers fricking students

and my biggest pet peeve is why the hell does murder get you 10 years in jail while attempted murder gets you 20-life when no one died? look it up, it changes in certain areas but the difference is the same, you get twice the jail time if the person doesnt die so the lesson is make damn sure they are dead and you back on the streets in 10 years, sometimes just 7

I'm all for the death penalty for violent crimes.
The faster we can get them to electric chair or leathal injection the better.

The death penalty 100% reduces crime, if for no other reason, it becomes 100% impossible for that criminal to commit another crime - because he is dead!

I wish LA had an Express lane for the death penalty.
