re: Why are so many women defending Lindsay Clancy?

She was lying to her therapist. She could have gone to the best facility and still they would have struggled medicating her correctly because she kept lying. She was convincing with her lies. She was a sociopath. She admits to murder. She should fry. End of story.
The fact that you are diagnosing her as a sociopath when that isn’t even an actual psychological diagnosis while also definitively saying what she did or didn’t do with a therapist (newsflash, she also never saw a therapist which is part of the problem) is certainly something.

Yes, Lindsay Clancy (the Massachusetts mother whose 2023 case and ongoing 2026 murder trial have been widely reported) received extensive mental health treatment, including from psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and at least one therapist. ?
Key details from court testimony and reporting:
• She began psychiatric care with Dr. Jennifer Tufts (Aster Mental Health) on or around September 15, 2022, after seeking help for anxiety and related symptoms following the birth of her third child. Tufts saw her roughly 14 times (mostly short virtual/telemedicine appointments) through January 23, 2023—the day before the children’s deaths. Tufts diagnosed generalized anxiety disorder and an adjustment disorder with depressed mood, prescribed medications (including Zoloft/sertraline and others that were later adjusted), and repeatedly recommended individual therapy. ?
• Clancy did engage with therapy: she saw a therapist at Aster Mental Health (noted as at least a couple of sessions) and worked with perinatal mental health counselor Lateisha/Leticia Dukes (and related crisis support contacts). Providers also arranged or recommended talk therapy, mindfulness, exercise, and other supports alongside medication. ?
• Additional care included psychiatric nurse practitioners (e.g., Rebecca Jollotta and Julie Paul at South Shore programs) who managed medications and recommended therapy, plus a voluntary inpatient stay at McLean Hospital (a psychiatric facility) in early January 2023 under Dr. Alia Goodheart. Overall reporting describes treatment by a psychiatrist, nurse practitioners, and a therapist between September 2022 and January 2023.

There’s a difference between defending what she did and trying to understand whether severe mental illness affected her ability to understand or control her actions.
No one here is saying, “Being a mommy is hard, so murdering your children is understandable.” That is a caricature of what people are actually discussing.
The question is whether severe mental illness affected Lindsay Clancy’s criminal responsibility at the time of the killings. Her intentional physical actions are obviously relevant evidence, but they do not by themselves resolve whether her perception of reality was so impaired that she met the legal standard for lack of criminal responsibility. That is precisely why there is a trial.
Additionally, it is the job of her defense to create reasonable doubt and based on what people here are saying: They’re clearly doing their job. Some comments seem to believe the husband may have done it.
Any way - thanks for the discussion. Time for me to go get my kids

Insane, psychotic, crazy, call it what you will.
The creature in the OP murdered her children.
Keeping her alive or trying to rehabilitate her serves no one.
This emotional defense or “understanding” or “explaining her situation” by some of you women is WILD.
And it really is only the women in here too.

Or a woman, who is so worn down that day and doesnt have the motivation to make food, but also realizes the struggle of then being alone with her kids if she asks for takeout, googles how long she will be alone if she suggests takeout as an option.
Your grandmother and great grandmother would laugh in your face as you whine about your husband taking too long to get takeout before you can dump the kids on him.

It doesn’t matter why or what or how.

By all means find in what I’ve said where I’ve excused her actions.
Please quote that. Pointing out the flaws in the system that may have saved her family isn’t excusing her. She’s competent enough to stand trial at this point.
Now you and others are putting fricking words in my mouth.

Legally it does though
And I’m not saying she did or didn’t do it or that she was aware or anything
Honestly I’ve just been burning time until I could head out of the office

It’s like they can’t understand that what Clancy did goes beyond the depression and anxiety she was diagnosed with. They want to relate because, yes, being a parent can be tough. And she’s a she. But that wasn’t her problem. Her problem is that she chose to kill her kids, knowing that what she was doing would kill them, didn’t do it in one single moment, planned it, and now she’s a victim because of course.
She’s no different than a serial killer or mass murderer. Those people have mental shite going on too. Get rid of them all.

I only just heard about this case yesterday. Apparently there is a big social media push to pin everything on the husband and his new wife.
I won't claim to know any of the details because I haven't read a single thing about this (not even this whole thread), I'm just going off of the way I was relayed the story.

Only because a jury can be full of dumbasses which is what the defense hopes for

I’ve discussed the issues between PsychDs and Psychs providing therapy in my first post versus a therapist.
Two sessions with a therapist isn’t comprehensive therapy.

Should have seen the look on my wife's face when I told her that the defendant had stipulated that she actually murdered the kids. Was pretty funny. I haven't had to hear another word about the fricking case since.

You said she never saw one. Wrong. Now you’re crawfishing and she never got “comprehensive” therapy. She lied and or didn’t follow through with the advice she was given. Whose fault is that?

I wonder how many of them had thoughts of killing their own kids at some point and that’s why this resonates so deeply? Makes you wonder.
