No one here is saying, “Being a mommy is hard, so murdering your children is understandable.” That is a caricature of what people are actually discussing.
The question is whether severe mental illness affected Lindsay Clancy’s criminal responsibility at the time of the killings. Her intentional physical actions are obviously relevant evidence, but they do not by themselves resolve whether her perception of reality was so impaired that she met the legal standard for lack of criminal responsibility. That is precisely why there is a trial.
The thread is not about the degree of guilt based on her mental state. That is what the actual case is about and that is what should be being debated and that is what the court will determine

The thread is about the unusual upswell of support and defense for this woman despite the grevious nature of her actions. So much so that despite the fact that she admits to the act and her defense team admits to the act, the support is still trying to blame the husband and "you will not convince them otherwise". Basically this thread is about an observable social phenomenon surrounding this case

quote:

Additionally, it is the job of her defense to create reasonable doubt and based on what people here are saying: They’re clearly doing their job. Some comments seem to believe the husband may have done it.
It is my understanding that it is not her defense team but social media influencers and supporters playing fast and loose with the "facts" that have caused this belief. The defense is not arguing the husband did it and they are not trying to make that case, they are simply making the case for lack of criminal responsibility

I wonder how many of them had thoughts of killing their own kids at some point and that’s why this resonates so deeply? Makes you wonder.

I think deep down it's a coping method for women who have justified an abortion at some point in their life. Whether it be their friend's, their own, or just their political support of the legal right, it takes a lot of cognitive dissonance to arrive on the side of supporting such a thing.

You said she never saw one. Wrong. Now you’re crawfishing and she never got “comprehensive” therapy. She lied and or didn’t follow through with the advice she was given. Whose fault is that?

It was my understanding she had only seen PsychNPs or Psychiatrist (particularly in-patient). I'm not crawfishing anything. You're collectively losing your shite because multiple people, some who happen to be women, have tried to explain to you why it isn't as simple as "Hang the bitch".

Repeal the 19th Amendment

Yes, I should totally continue to have a rational discussion with someone who wants to blanket repeal women's right to vote

I genuinely feel for some of the women in your lives if this your totally rational respond to someone who killed her kids, potentially in psychosis.

If that's the case should we also sterilize all men since majority of family annihilators are men?

She'll still be criminally responsible or she wouldn't be fit to stand trial.

Having done internship hours in a state, criminal mental health facility it's also hard time. It's not a cushy, private pay rehab facility.

I want her to be accountable and you want to talk about how the system at her fingertips failed her so it’s not totally her fault. We are not the same. You can’t think with logic only your feelings. So no. You shouldn’t vote.

Im fine with earning the right to vote and procreate. Good idea.

She should be put to death. There’s no rehab for her. Why do you want to rehab her in the first place?

This is where your irrationality shows its face.

It is that simple. Hang the bitch.

Men aren’t trying to rationalize their actions.

The VAST majority call for their deaths, no matter whether they are psychotic or not.

Same with rapists and other male dominated crimes.

The vast majority of males aren’t asking for understanding and excuses.

Even when women are the primary victims, it is still majority women who ask for lighter sentencing in criminal actions.

Legally, no it isn't. The criminally insane defense is there for a reason.

Again, when you've spent time in a criminal level mental health facility get back to me on how she's not going to be punished for this if found guilty by insanity. This isn't just some simple in-patient facility.

You're telling me I can't think with logic and only feelings yet this whole thread has been you all of the way in your feelings.

Keeping her alive or trying to rehabilitate her serves no one.

With this logic- Then we should kill any mom with ppd/ppa because it could lead to a psychotic episode like killing your children and since they can not be rehabilitated and serve no one, just kill them. Got it.

Oh, please. We literally had posters here who were defending Brian Laundrie killing Gabby Petito ("She must've been crazy") and defending his parents covering for him.

Outside of maybe one poster in this thread (who is considering the husband apparently) the majority of women in this thread haven't defended her actions.

What is the purpose of the facility? What’s the goal? If she’s there for life, what is she being treated for?

Why should she be there in the first place?
What’s to stop ANY woman from claiming PPD/depression when they do something terrible? Do we send them all to a mental facility to cope and get fixed and be happy? Does she deserve happiness or closure or help for what she did?

Feelings? No. Logic. Kill 3 kids methodically with a plan… you die. We don’t sit here and discuss her meds and her therapy visits and blame anyone or anything else but her because you need to understand or empathize. THAT is being in your feelings.

What?

We should end the life of anyone who kills their children.

100s of millions of women manage to not kill their children.

You can be fit to stand trial but still determined to be criminally insane at the time of the act itself was committed

Unless i am misinterprettng what you are saying, which is possible
