One of the things helping to get so many people so fat is HFCS.

I'll give you a little hint: it ain't the homies regularly consuming MRE's.

Because that would entail the people who are mostly on the front lines. Maybe my experience is different from others, but combat arms guys were generally in pretty damn good shape, and most were skinny or skinny-ripped.

It's the people that like to eat Pizza Hut and Taco Bell at the PX for breakfast while on base that tend to be the problem. And they generally don't have a 10-15km ruck every Friday to burn their cals.

ETA: To add some context, I was 5'11" and about 145 lbs. when I came back from my deployment, and we were eating MRE's like there was no tomorrow. I also lost weight almost every single field exercise I went on, in which we were also eating mostly MRE's.

Actually, no where near that. The average MRE is about 1,300 calories. Designed to hit near the average calorie burn of a combat troop if they eat 3 full MREs a day.

I know it’s been a meme for a while, but it’s accurate. I’ve been watching what I eat lately and I cut the Cokes out cold turkey. I’m already down 6-8 lbs (fluctuations).

But it makes absolutely zero sense that you can go get a cheeseburger for $1.25 while salads cost $3-4 every time. I understand, only poors worry about that sort of thing, but the point remains.

I believe Pepsi was my main problem, I'd go through 3-5 a day and eat whatever i wanted. Since i have cut down to 1 a day and eating better I have dropped 11 lbs in a little over 2 weeks.

I would love to see one of those cdaniel weight loss update threads.

I have a feeling that creepy bastard gained all the weight back after the surgery.

I think it's mainly suburban car culture. You see less of it in big cities where everybody is walking, and especially in Europe.

ETA, regular soda, beer, juice, and frappuccinos all pack on the calories, and that's tough to overcome.

It's Coke for sure. I read an article about a year ago that said on average, Americans are getting more of their daily calorie intake from drinks than from solid food...all while they continue to make poor solid food choices.

That's pretty astounding.

because our bodies tell us to maintain homeostasis. its not normal to be in a calorie deficit. calorie rich foods are the problem that leads to so much weight gain.
