Because not having to deal with public school children and their parents are worth taking less money.

Parents who don’t care about what their kids do at school are much easier than parents that are up your butt everyday about their kids. Parents that hover over are difficult parent that don’t care are very easy, up until their child gets suspended.

Private school parents are far worse.

No, they’re not. Yeah, they typically expect more out of the teachers, but they’re also more likely to make sure little Karsten does his homework and gets punished for acting like a little shite head.

They really are. A picky consumer is inherently more difficult to please than one who doesn’t care.
Also parents who hover over their children are extremely difficult to convince their that their kid is a little pooper just like all the rest.

They are not regulated by the state because tax dollars are not funding the school so they are not regulated the same way bro.

Our free market is saying that a public school teacher is more valuable than a private school teacher

Lol “free market” when public schools are funded by taxes which people have to pay unless they want to go to jail.

The reason public teachers are paid more is 100% that public schools don’t compete for funding.

Same as why nurses in the private Dr's office make less than the nurses in hospitals. Less stress to contend with

That’s a reason people accept the lower salaries that most private schools offer. It’s not the CAUSE of the lower salary. The cause of the lower salary is limited funding.

Lots of people in here confusing cause and effect.

If the funding were the same, you would have much more competition for the private school jobs, and the public schools would have very few good teachers.

It is very simple. Public schools have to pay higher just to get "qualified" teachers. Note that just because they are qualified (certified) doesn't mean they are effective. A large percentage of public school teachers are not much more valuable than a simple "warm body" filling a seat, doing the bare minimum or less. Public school teachers cannot be simply fired or not invited back- unions. A private school teacher can be let go any time and their contract re-negotiated every year - or simply not invited back if not effective (in that case they often obtain certification and move to a public school system).

Many of my teachers got free housing, and at boarding school, it was room and board.

Our school calendar was also shorter. We’d start in late August, have longer vacations, and end in early May.

I knew of schools that were holding tanks for delinquents. Those schools were generally poorer, and had much lower standards. The better schools had large endowments and didn’t care who you were.

Parents also blamed their children for getting expelled, in my experience.

And it did matter, they cared, but they also didn’t look at as a life ending experience.

Come on man.. This should be obvious.

Public schools obviously are government funded, private schools depend on tuition, fundraisers, etc (I guess Catholic schools receive some money from the diocese and other private schools that are affiliated with a church)..

what kind of gifts? I can understand a small Christmas present but 7 thousand worth?

Christmas, birthday, Easter, baby showers, Gala gifts, whatever. $7k spread over 15 - 18 families spread over a year isn't a lot per family that is paying $17K+ per child per year. $100 here, $100 there per family and it adds up.
