Probably because money isn’t popular anymore.

When you travel, you carry plastic. Even travelers checks are a relic now.

Now, if you are transporting large amounts of cash that needs to be laundered, a money vest is a handy item.

During his trial, witnesses described how Edwards met prospective casino operators seeking a license at an Applebee’s by the airport. After a lunch, they walked out to a rented Lincoln Town Car and presented the governor with the cash. They then watched in impressive fashion as he slowly but methodically stuffed a suitcase of cash into a mesh money vest that he was wearing. He had cash everywhere...up his back, under his arms, it was a vest of cash.

Had a leather belt with an inside zipper that could be used to stow a few bills. Circa 1988. I’d put a couple of hundies there when I was traveling.

Nowadays, it’s plastic all the way. Although, I did have a little bit of a scare last year when I was traveling and the credit card company decided to deactivate my main card. Had others that I could use, but it was a PITA trying to get a coffee or whatever—it had some kind of soft hold on it. I could use it for some things but not others. Still not sure what happened. Card just basically started working again once I was back home.

Your credit card company fraud detectors picked up unusual card activity away from home. Happened to me one time when I was trying to exit a long term parking lot in the middle of the night at a busy airport.

Just let the card company know before you leave the country.

I used to sell those personalized rhinestone belt buckles in Cortana mall back in the day. Made a killing.

ETA: Nevermind I thought you were talking about a different kind of belt.
