re: Why are class B RVs so expensive? Compared to A and C class?

Why would any of these be a better option than a small pull behind camper? Once parked you can unhitch from your F250 and explore.
I’ve always thought the tow behinds were the best value and made the most sense.

going with a Toyota over land vehicle makes more sense for my needs.
I retire in 4 months. Fixing to buy a JLU Rubicon (just cuz I'm a Jeep guy) and will build it out for overland. And it will all be under a "business". I wanna go places where most people can't go.
I'm gonna hit the road for the summer and until it gets cold...I have a tentative agenda that includes stops in NM, CO, AZ, UT, etc.
I cannot think of anything else.

couple additional thoughts
2 year old boats, motor cycles and Rv's are the best purchase values by far. People think they want the life and just never get around to taking the toys out of the garage. PPL in Houston is a consignment used rv dealer[largest in US] and has all of their inventory on line priced and pictured. Great place to buy/they ripped me bad on a sale

I'm interested in this one. Wet bath, kitchenette, sleeps two, and only weighs 2,700 lbs.

You’re competing with UPS, Amazon and every freight/utility/limo company for the chassis.

Those high roof vans are expensive even stripped down and bare. I thought I was going to get one for going racing when we didn't need the big camper. I found out quickly that they cost more than the dang camper, then need another $7k to build it out for what we need. I was very surprised at the cost.

Damn only 2700 pounds? A car could pull that. Wow

What does that mean?

But also I could call this a mobile office and partially write it off.
Is the IRS pretty open minded about this sort of thing?
Any downside to attempting this with an extended cab pickup truck?

Of course coach As and Super Cs are the most expensive.
Of course? As and Cs are better than Bs?

I rented a sprinter van last year and did Arches, Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef for a week last summer. It was a great trip but I could not spend extended periods of time in something that small. It all looks and sounds great until youre living in it and trying to squeeze past your wife, bumping into everything, rearranging things.

People are giving up van life
Seeing more and more videos of it. I think we gonna see a shift in the market soon. Hopefully I van find a quigley diesel Ford again for a good deal

My thoughts too. Seems you could rent an absolutely dope unit for less than owning and maintaining a quarter million dollar vehicle.
Idk, no doubt there's more to it than I recognize and lots of smart folks own them and swear by them, so I'll defer to the enthusiasts why this investment makes sense.

Those vans are the worst deal in camping, IMHO. Even if you are only using the rig 2-3 times a year. If the trips are long, you would be much happier in a short Class "A" (30-38') and the newer models with piston steering assist and modern suspension handle MUCH better than the class A's of the past. Also, don't pay too much attention to the list price you see on the new units... Most dealers I have negotiated with will give a giant price cut with an inquiry email. Those 150k class A's will be 120-135 after you mention that you are in the market and more once they find out you are serious.
Having a full sized refrigerator that runs on propane, a full sized shower that you can stand up in and a king sized bed to make Ponce on Mrs. Napoleon
will have you questioning why you ever looked at van. Throw a motor scooter on a rack on the back hitch for less 1K to make emergency beer runs or using uber to go to dinner during your trip makes up for what you give up in mobility.

I've seen people on YouTube converting ambulances in RVs.
That's actually not a bad idea. every so often the shuttle companies at the big-arse airport here in Atlanta sell/auction off some of their older shuttle buses. I've seen a couple of those converted into RVs. The floor is already pretty open and removing the seats is easy.
The down side to this option is the OP is talking about going out to the "rugged west." I imagine a converted shuttle bus would have a bit of difficulty navigating the roads to the best fishing holes in Montana, Wyoming, or Idaho.

Class C’s are built on a bare chassis. Class B’s have to be cut apart and engineered to make room for all your “necessities”.
This simply isn’t true, at least not across the board. It’s all about demand and people will pay for the smaller ‘cooler’ B.

That drive across Texas sucks OP especially twice on every trip, mostly it’s just a time suck. Personally, I’d buy one and drive it out somewhere you have a cheap flight to and leave it there.

My father had a Chinook...one big difference between that Class B and Class A or C was insulation. It was almost like driving around in an igloo cooler. It was crazy how much better it was suited for harsh conditions.

Unless you're retired I'd recommend just renting RVs when you want to take a trip.
