Strongly considered The French Laundry???????? If you are in the restaurant business, and the guy from The French Laundry offers you a job, you take it....live in your car if you have to. After a few years there, you can work anywhere in the US or the world, it's that good

That’s a fair point. I guess it’s so hard for me to wrap my head around because I subscribe to “live and let live”. You have to if you’re liberal leaning in a state like Louisiana or else you’d lose all your family and have terrible day to day interactions everywhere you go. It’s hard to fathom that some truly can’t be happy somewhere by living their own life and not worrying about others.

But I see your point and why many can’t.

I think that there are more republicans in California than in any other state. Let me try and find my source for that stat

She isn't though. She's in sales as the youngest person ever to be in her current position and an insane career path. The decision wasn't a steakhouse waitress getting a call to go to TFL.

California, especially the population centers (which is 95% of "California" in these discussions) are the epitome of a very polarized culture and set of values that many people (not just in LA) across the US abhor

That is pretty hyperbolic. My travels in the denser areas of the Bay, L.A., Sacramento, Orange, or San Diego showed there is not some singular thought process. I would not argue that left-lean is the majority, but if your typical group of friends are conservative, are Christian, or are traditionalists, they are pretty easy to find. Personally, it was easier to find them, than find a bunch of uber-liberal "world changers" with the amount of fellow Veterans in SD County.

The issue with CA is the vocal minority, coupled with a progressive institution. The majority of the people are not as aggressively tied to what is shown on MSM.

Not all, bur many progressives do not. They're all about attacking those outside of their orthodoxy these days. They're just like southern Baptists, just on the other pole.

Over half my friends from Cali have befriended or blocked me on FB and I didn't even vote for Trump. And I've known some 15+ years

Spent time out at Pendleton. California is beautiful, tons to do, and has an awesome climate. Politics don’t bother me as much because if you’re truly a libertarian (as a lot of here claim to be) you can live and let live on that. You can surf, rock climb, hike, raft, etc...

Most of the hate for California here comes from career croc wearers and button-pushers in a plant built somewhere in a south Louisiana mosquito infested mud-hole.

LA and the Bay Area control the purse strings though

Ca. Is an incredibly diverse state. I think it's an awesome place to visit. I couldn't see myself living there outside possibly the northern third of the state though

The day to day over-regulation would drive me insane

I could stand the culture 5+ years ago. Now? Probably couldn't. I can hold my tongue for a vacation but not in perpetuity. I actually have to do this over the weekend while in NYC and I'm already preparing my brain to be quiet

I went to California (San Diego) for the first time in February. I was expecting a bunch of stuck up assholes. I was wrong. The people were very friendly. I spent a lot of times in bars, beaches, etc. Nothing but good experiences all the way around.

There are a lot of folks around here who don't leave their LP trailer parks very much.

Get in a trailer park in San Luis Obispo......you'll never want to leave. If I did not have a business in Louisiana, my arse would be living the good life there....it's just about perfect weather wise and the people there are pretty nice and you have some great Pacific Ocean views.....Ojai is not bad either

If your view of California is San Diego, you'd love it

If your view of California comes from Barstow, it's the pit of hell.

Level 4, master sommelier, is when you start seeing so few of them. There's just over 200 in the world that are level 4. Men and women.

Me too.

Not to mention having to live under the progressive fiscal policies. And I'm not really all that socially conservative in many cases.

Close to 3,000 I think. Like 230 level 4. The test is super hard. Blind tasting and you tell the varietal, region, etc. It's incredible.
