I was stationed at the Presidio of Monterey for language school back in the late 1970's...
Californians and New Orleanians go together culturally like cheese and chalk...I developed a dislike for the place rapidly...and I will admit a lot of it had to do with my personal situation at the time...
I don't like living in the Pacific time zone...
cost of housing is obscene and poorly built...

If you travel outside of the LA megalopolis and the Bay, this just isn't true. Especially for the interior - there's a buuunch of good ol' baws. They are just dwarfed in influence and perception by the cities.

Right, I think the more inland you go the more conservative it becomes. That is why I qualified my statement with "the most vocal" which comes out of LA mostly.

Hate the people in the big cities. I've only been as far down south as Santa Cruz, but North California is one of the most beautiful places i've ever visited. I wish housing didn't cost so much because i'd love to move out there

California has the best public university system on the planet. Silicon Valley is the most innovative region in the world.
Sure, the state has problems, but at least they get some things right.
What does Louisiana do well besides tailgating and parades?
