Why not a high speed train instead? A highway is kind of dumb. Especially considering the hazardous conditions the highway would experience in the colder months.

I made the drive from Louisiana to Alaska. It was fun but frick that. I was young and had time. Most of the trip would be gravel much like the Alaska trip. With roadwork every 2 miles fixing the frozen damage just in time for the next freeze.
Btw. frick the mosquitos in Alaska. We got out our car in one place and we could not open our mouth they were so thick.

Wow, funny you say that I also made the 5,500 mile road trip from Alaska to Baton Rouge. I took the trip in early December of last year and while the roads where pretty bad and had lots of ice, it still wasn't bad enough to where I wouldn't do it again. That being said I would go along for the ride.
