I scheduled for an electrician to come to my house today 2 weeks ago. Estimated arrival time was from 4-6. Today my boss tells me that I need to stay late for a mandatory training at 6:00. On Monday we were made aware that the training would take place during 2 times (2:00 pm on Wednesday and 4:00 pm Friday).

However, the main office had a surprise visit today. He gave me 6 hours notice and expected me to accommodate him when I had other commitments. I'd be charged a cancelation fee should I have rescheduled due to poor leadership. He then tried to guilt me into doing it and essentially working a 12 hour day because the training is 2 hours. "I don't ask a lot from you". He does actually. How would the OT have handled this?

Ask if you can watch the Wendy's Grill Skill Training Video at home. Do you have a VCR?

Don't take a job where a boss can dictate to you like that.

Is the cancellation fee in writing? If not, tell the electrician to get bent.

I took a picture of the installation with watch in view. I sent him receipts of the order too. He didn't respond.

Boss can't control that, but he can support his employee and let him go take care of a prior obligation that was out of employee's control.

Have a friend or family member let the electrician in.

I instantly thought of the Office Space boss asking him to stay late. "That'd be great".

I don’t mind working late on short notice, but if I have something planned, I’m going to take care of my shite.

See if they can video the training.

Is she loose?

I am old school. Some times you have to bite the big one for work but sometimes you might get to sneak out early. Guess every company is different but as an employer, if you wined about missing your electrician, dont come ask for favors from the company.

At the end of the day, is it that big of a deal? Find somebody to be at the house, pay the stupid missed appointment fee and move on with life.

Things dont always go perfectly in life, deal with it for crying out loud.

I just got this response from him after sending the photo of the workers: "No worries, I just got word from Sara your good.Sorry about the panic." Seriously?

Exactly, it's probably a bullshite worthless training like most are and not that big of a deal. People sometimes have to miss training because some shite in life is more important than some BS at work.
A company that expects employees to choose work over life on short notice is not going to be a very good company with good, lasting employees.

Glad my work isn't that shitty.

A true OTer would buy those bastards out, and schedule training when he decides.
