Neither will get actual herd immunity absent a vaccine. But Sweden has enough immunity in the population that this thing is about over there. Last I checked, they were down to a handful of deaths per day. And they never shut down in the way we tried to. They will be back to school in the fall. Bars are now open.

40 million not sure where from

Serology studies have shown 10x more infections than documented cases. Cases are over 4 million.

NYC serology study put near 2 million infections there alone and this was end of April.

Things have been up and running for the most part. And to be honest, most didn't follow the lockdown restrictions anyway.

You’re right, restaurants, bars, concerts, and sporting events are up and running. People were flying all over the country for vacation and theme parks have been open.

Yep, nobody listened and things were mostly normal.

That was in places hit hard early when testing was much lower. It isn't a number that should be applied across the board. Probably closer to 6 or 7 times now.

There could be 20 percent or more with natural immunity, so if herd immunity requires 40 percent we could be there already.

“Herd immunity might be achieved when only 43% of a population becomes immune to the coronavirus, mathematicians from the University of Nottingham and University of Stockholm wrote in an article in Science.

That’s “substantially less than the classical herd immunity level of 60% obtained through homogeneous immunization of the population,” they wrote.“

Regarding parts of New York

“The data, first reported by The New York Times Thursday, shows that more than 68% of people tested positive for antibodies at a clinic in Corona, Queens, while only 56% tested positive at another clinic in Jackson Heights, Queens. CityMD, which operates dozens of walk-in clinics in New York, confirmed the data to the Times and CNN.”

We’ll have a vaccine before we have herd immunity

I hate to dampen your enthusiasm, but we will never have a vaccine for this

1) no corona virus has never had a successful vaccine developed for it. Ever

B) by the time one is supposedly 'ready', this virus will have mutated to a much less virulent form, and the masses wont be lining up to guinea pig the vaccine

Sweden... As of a recent count they were at like 10% of their population with either Ig or Im antibodies.

The US is no where near that.

Oschner study done before the first spike showed 8% in the NOLA area had antibodies. That means over 10% overall, and that was two months ago.

That doesn't account for people who had the antibodies, but have worn off.

270 million = 80% of population in the USA= herd immunity

60k cases a day

It would take 12 years.

I'm not dead set on vaccine.
I don't think it's impossible to see a vaccine soon. But, it's by no means a sure thing or something we should plan on.

I'm not getting one until at least few years. Long term effects unknown.

But, these vaccines are very easily scaled up.
They don't need to use chicken eggs etc as it's not a weakened or dead virus vaccine.

Distribution not hard.
Get shots at CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, schools etc.

When did I say that a large percentage of the population will have access to the vaccine this year?
