It is better to live within your means and sufficient than live in a house that you can't afford.

My negative opinion on trailers only comes from the fact that they are a depreciating asset whereas houses generally aren't. I don't think negatively about people that live in them though. Everyone's situation is different.

I do. Just bought it less than two weeks ago. A double wide with a brick skirt on a slab. Half acre lot with 225 feet of waterfront. 2000 square feet of covered porches. Concrete boat launch. Going to put up a 30 by 30 metal building. Just caught a catfish, 2 perch and 3 sac a lait thirty feet from my back porch. I love it.

I'll use my family as an example......we have a house we built for $260,000 that is now "worth" $375,000. We will sell for, say 325-350.......buy a "trailer" for less than a third of that for retirement, and put the cash in our portfolio at, say 6%.......

The way they're building houses lately, I'm not so sure they'll not be depreciating soon.....
Trailers around here hold value pretty well.

My first house was a poorly built home. It really was just a trailer on a slab. When we moved my wife picked an older home built in the mid 70s and I have to admit that it's far better built. A little more maintenance required.

Lived in one for 2.5 years when first married. Saved way more money by living in the trailer versus $1k in rent a month living in an apartment. Allowed me to build my first house. On my fourth one now.

All of this. There is not a damn thing wrong with living in a trailer. I grew up half of my childhood living in a trailer. Went from a 4 bedroom brick home to a small trailer. When I was little my mom got terminal cancer. At this time in the 70's very few health insurance policies covered cancer. My Dad had 2 options, charity hospital or get my mom the best care possible out his pocket. He chose the later and it totally wiped him out, then the oil bust hit and he just couldn't keep up with the mountain of bills and a mortgage. That is life, sometimes your the windshield sometimes your the bug. I own my own home but that experience certainly shaped my financial views. I am very careful and put a lot of thought into any big purchases. I would live in a trailer again without a second thought. Hell some of the trailers nowadays are built just as well as a house.

Not bragging you schmuck! Just stating what I know for a fact! I have 2x6 walls, spray foam insulation, among many other custom order items. Once it's bricked it in, it falls under FHA and is no longer considered a manufactured home. Like I said, I have tons of friend's whom wish they would have went this route, but living in subdivisions don't allow it!
