If you have lived in Orleans or Jefferson Parish your entire life, you are nose blind to the stench of decay of your homeland.

Northshore kid that spent all my free time in the city. There wasn't shite over here back in the day. I remember when we got the McDonalds.

Born and raised in New Orleans, but moved away.
Was just telling my family last night: Until I moved away, I just thought that this is how it is everywhere (HORRENDOUS streets, tons of crime, litter everywhere, etc).
And then you move somewhere else and it's clean, the streets are smooth, and you don't have to worry every time you get out of your car that you'll have a gun to your head. And it really does put into perspective how rough the things that I considered "normal" were.

born and grew up in Metry near the Downs Lounge (Lafreniere Park) ...
left in 1986 to attend LSU and have been living in Lafayette since 1988.
Parents left in 1992 and bought 40 acres in Franklinton.
I have no immediate family living in the Crescent anymore
