Tae Kwan Do started in 6th grade. Then other sports. Got into Shotokan at LSU with the club and beyond.
Took a few boot to the head in tournaments atAAU college level matches at UNO and had the time of my life.
But to have reliable muscle memory, you have to keep practicing.

I quit when I was 14 too, but I was a green belt.
8 years later I started back up. I am still training 39 years later.

Bob is legit John Kreese if Kreese had been a good guy.
I trained under him back in my day, when he was at that 2 story building near the river. Shotokan karate for 8 years, then muay thai

He was the best. I used to be an asst instructor for his basic classes. One time a guy asked what to do if the opponent pulls a knife. He said "ah, heel and toe technique. Turn other way and then put heel and toe on ground one after other very fast."

I took Tae Kwan Do for about the same, but I had some mad nunchuck skills so I quit and focused on that.

I took tae Kwon do. Quit about a year in as an orange belt I think. Maybe purple Fock I don’t remember really. I do remember this though. I was in the fifth grade when I started and sixth grade at the time I quit. The geniuses that ran it had a sleep over at the dojo. With boys and girls. What an idiot owner. I got my finger wet for the first time that night. Looking back I was way too young. But it felt good at the time to me apparently. I’m glad I grew up in the 80’s.

Took judo when I was younger and got to orange belt. Quit and had been out the game for a long time. Been doing bjj for the last two years which is somewhat similar to judo but I’m old now so I suck.

When I was younger I ran into this talking rat that acted like a human. He taught me and four turtles karate.

I took Tang Soo Do for 3 months back in the ‘70s, then the school moved. I was the only one out of 26 students to pass the first belt test. I wish I had been able to continue. My kid took Tae Kwon Do for 8 years and not once did I see someone fail a belt test.
Nowadays they hand out black belts like skittles. Amazing how pussified it became in that time span between generations.
But it’s like anything else - you get out of it what you put into it. There were black belts who had no business being black belts and others who were excellent at their craft. My son was a 3rd degree black belt, and in the main organization he competed in (he competed in a half dozen different circuits), 3rd degree is pretty much what I considered to be a “real” black belt. We traveled all over the country for years, trained privately under a couple of the top guys in the world, and he won 4 consecutive world championships in weapons in the largest organization in the U.S. (with 20+ countries represented at the World Championships). We had a really fun time as a family in the years he competed and met some great people along the way.
