I can remember in my head what the cans looked like. I think the main flavors were lemon lime with a green can and fruit punch or something in a red can. I think the font was in yellow? I can’t believe I can’t find a picture.

I miss 10K. Why did it go away?

Up until about 2 years ago, I had one of the yellow 10K 5 gal coolers that you would get if you bought enough of the powder. Finally it just got in too terrible shape to keep using.

When I was in Cub Scouts, they were cheap and used to only use half the mix per batch. And they only used the red flavor. We used to call it "bug juice"

Dale pretty much owns them when it comes to acting.

And Mike Archer looks like the state trooper who'd get his coffee peed in.

10-K was the shite. I distinctly remember a basketball tournament from when I was a kid. Out of town, unfamiliar gym, and an ice chest jam packed with delicious 10-K. Forrest Gump was spot on. It's funny how some things you remember and some things you can't. That is a random moment from childhood that for whatever reason my brain has preserved clear as day.

My dad had a 10k ice chest when I was a kid. Wish he would have held onto it.

Mora comes off a bit too rehearsed in the ad. They should've let him drop an expletive or three.

I miss 10K. Why did it go away?

I could write a novel on this topic as I lived it growing up. My dad helped create 10-K. He was the National Sales Account Mgr. and did lots of the marketing. At one time, 10-K was the official thirst quencher beverage sponsor for 25 Colleges and Universities, including all SEC schools except FLA. It was always on the sidelines of HS and college football games. 10-K also sponsored the Senior Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Saints, Crescent City Classic, and countless college football summer camps. Oilfield companies would ship 10-K powder and coolers to offshore platforms for the workers to drink & prevent heat exhaustion. Every playground throughout South Louisiana sold bottled 10-K at the food stand.

Back in the mid-80's, the only competition was Gatorade which was still privately owned. 10-K was being sold in 23 States throughout the gulf south. In the regional market, 10-K sales crushed Gatorade as Gatorade tried to buy 10-k from Kentwood.

My brother and several of his friends would set up the coolers, mix the 10-K, and make sure everything was taken care of for football coaches and players during the week of the Sugar Bowl and Senior Bowl in Mobile. I probably attended a dozen of each SB & SB football games since we were in charge of keeping the coolers filled during the games. We also got to set up coolers in the locker rooms and had all access passes during the games. I remember Antwan Randle El winning the Senior Bowl MVP. I remember Jerome Bettis and ND beating Spurrier in 1992 Sugar Bowl. During the game, FLA was contractually obligated to drink 10-K and have the coolers on the sidelines. The FLA staff would pour out full coolers of 10-K and fill them up with Gatorade. The trainers would also wrap ankle tape around the 10-K coolers & water bottles so the yellow and blue label could not be seen.

My dad helped 10-K get national recognition with advertising on Nickelodeon and product appearances on Seinfeld. The motto, "Really, Really Good Stuff" was created and centered at capturing the kids audience. Since 10-K was frequently seen on Nickelodeon, kids would remember the catchy phrase and tell their mom to buy 10-K at the supermarket. Gatorade was seeing their sales numbers dwindle in the early 90's. To compete with 10-K regionally, their marketing department decided to sign Michael Jordan to an endorsement contract.

When my dad approached LSU about 10-K being the official thirst quencher, Bob Broadhead was against the deal and not in favor of it. After several meetings with the University, it was Sam Nadar who made it happen and supported LSU endorsing the product.

Why did it disappear ? Because the Japanese didn't know their product geography and got greedy. In 1985, the Rosenblum family sold Kentwood Spring Water and 10-K to the Suntory Corporation. Everything was running smoothly with lots of growth and profit for years. Then someone in upper management at Suntory made the brilliant decision to start selling 10-K in California without increasing the marketing budget or having a dedicated West Coast contact person. Within 6 months, 10-K failed in California. Suntory later decided to pull the plug on the entire product line and focus on selling bottled water.

My favorite flavor was the ice tea. I had dozens of packets of powder 10-K until it finally ran out. Still have a few shirts, coolers, bottles, and wind breaker jackets. Also have Senior and Sugar Bowl diddy bags & watches that were given to the players. My dad is 77 and just beat throat cancer, obviously not in the best health today. I'll always remember the cool perks me and my brother were able to experience through 10-K.
Thanks Dad
edit: I'll take some pics of the merch I still have and post them later. Definitely a stroll through memory lane from the 80's and 90's

What also hit differently (in a bad way) was the worst sports drink at the time...Allsport. Most dissatisfying sports drink you could find and always tasted like sugar water mixed with the plastic of the re-used hosed down container it was kept in

I freaking loved Allsport.

Was allsport the one that had the fizz? I remember one of them was because after practice I always wanted the fizzy drink.

Hell yeah, I remember 10-K! I was a huge supporter of it in college since it mixed quite well with vodka. University of Floriduh collected royalties off Gator-piss (I mean, Gatorade), but LSU collected the royalties off 10-K, so of course that would be my sports drink of choice. Screw the Gay-tards in Gayness-ville.

Well he freaking oughta have someone pee in his coffee. That first loss to Kentucky during his tenure was the sign of the oncoming downward spiral that would be LSU football in the 1990s. Of course, that can be partially blamed on Arnsparger for recommending Archer as his successor.

My uncle and his best friend in the early/mid-80’s - right after they had graduated college I believe, bicycled across the country and were sponsored by 10K.

I don’t know the story behind why or what their connection to the company was but somewhere I still have a few water bottles he gave me.

Yep. The prepackaged stuff definitely did. Although I can’t remember if the powdered version that teams would use did as well

I was a kid, but I remember thinking things really fell apart fast for Archer. Never really researched it, but I guess he probably didn't recruit well.

One of my stranger childhood dreams was a very long, vivid one where Greg Davis (Tulane coach from the ad) held a press conference and came out as a homosexual.
