John Mulaney is the funniest comic in America right now.
He dominated sketch comedy as the best writer on SNL post-2000.
He dominated serial comedy with the best episodes of Documentary Now.
His stand up specials/albums are better than anyone else is putting out right now.
If you listen to comics talk about other comics, they literally talk about Mulaney with reverence. No one really helps him punch up his material, but he gives classic lines to seemingly everyone. If his tv show hadn't completely bombed, I'd swear he could do anything.
My personal favorites: Mulaney, Birbiglia, Norm MacDonald for current acts. Patrice O'Neal and Carlin (RIP x2) for classics.
