Sorry so long.

A few months ago good friend ("Jane") was having a birthday party for her daughter but I was unable to attend at the last minute It is about 200 miles away from where I live.

I had offered to give Jane's dad (G'pa) a ride to the party along with other relative who live here. G'pa doesn't a vehicle and other relatives car is too small.

So I let G'pa use my vehicle, have him $100 for gas for the trip. I also have him $100 so that he could give each of Jane's kids $50 (plus a quilt I made for Jane's daughter).

Jane's son is autistic/nonverbal and I missed his b'day months ago so I was sending the money to make up for that.

Later, Jane calls to thank me for the quilt. I told her she was welcome and that I hoped that her daughter would use the $50 that I sent to buy something she wanted.

She told me that G'pa gave the b'day girl $50 and made a big deal about how it was from him (never mentioning it was from me).

I asked G'pa gave the disabled child his $50 and Jane said "no". He never even mentioned it.

When G'pa came back to give me my vehicle I asked him about the party and asked him how the kids like the gifts and did he give Jane for $50 for the disable son. He assured me 3 times that he gave it to Jane.

Jane called him and mentioned to him that she spoke to me and that i had mentioned the $50. G'pa lied and said he "forgot" to give it to her. It's been months and he has NOT sent the money and is actively avoiding Jane and blaming me for all of this.

Now G'pa is pissed at me for not minding my own business, for spying, for hurting his pride and a million other lameass BS reasons.

TL;DR - POS steals from disabled child

See this is why you should just make the 'compound' self sufficient. Cut off phone service and everyone in the outside world and your clan wouldn't get caught up in this mess.

I definitely think you have a right to be mad at Grandpa. So does Jane, on behalf of her disabled son who doesn't know that he's been a victim.
No good deed goes unpunished. You were very nice to let him use your car, and then to give gas money on top of that. He definitely took advantage. I could see him trying to claim the $50 for the daughter as his gift, IF he has no means to give her one. That's halfway forgivable..maybe. The rest of it is too much though. I'll assume your gas tank was on empty when you got back in your car.
Sorry this happened to you and the disabled child.

I'd send the kid another $50 and never talk to the gpa again. F him.

I wouldn't normally send an additional $50 but it sounds like this family (Jane and son) are close to you. The kid would love it and Jane would appreciate it as well.

i don't let people go that easy. Especially if i went out of my way like the OP did to make everyone happy just to get taken advantage of.

That is what happened.

That's kind of fricked up. Is he known for doing something like this? As for as who is the victim, a gift from you was not delivered to the person it was intended for. Technically he stole the money from you, but it was money that was going to be for the kid you were sending it to so he actually stole for both of you.
