Tomorrow is Saturday. Go to a Costco around 10am and ban my account if I'm lying to you. At the Costco gas pumps, you will see 10 cars deep at each pump. 90% of those cars will be 80k-100k SUV's, F250's etc.

It's funny but very sad/shocking at the same time. People that want to keep up with the school carpool Jones' will buy these 6 figure top trim beasts, but then wait in a minimum 30-min line to save $10 on 30-gallon fillups.

Yeah, my plan is to drive my f150 until I can hand it down to my kids.

I just can't rationalize a car purchase when I know my truck is still running flawlessly

Well, technically they never die and it's always cheaper to get them fixed, even if you need a new engine.

Prices are crazy. I keep mine, or have been, for ten years. Last new truck was a 06 250 lariat with a 44,000 msrp, I kept it 10 years and in 17 bought the same truck but it did come with more tech stuff at the same trim level and listed at 75,000 msrp.

Part of the problem is all the crap they keep adding. Screens, cameras, auto this and that, parking assist, and on and on. It’s almost stripped down work truck or fully loaded now, there is not much in between, at all trim levels.

They all have 4 wheels and get you where you need to go.

I used to think the same, but after getting married and having kids, you want them riding around in something that is as safe and reliable as you can afford. Late model, low mileage, full size SUV’s are about as safe and as reliable as you can get, within reason. You can find them used. But you’re going to pay almost as much for used as you will for new these days.

I keep my wife in newer vehicles than I drive for this reason.

My wife drives herself and the kids around in a 2012 Honda Accord that's been paid off for years. Guess I don't love my family

Have you seen them new 14" display screens in some of them? I know Ford has them in some of their new suv's. wonder when they'll put those in the f150s and super duties.

Is this where we pretend to be rich in every other thread and then get outraged at vehicle prices

The market for pretty much everything that’s an overpriced status symbol is white women.

it's not 1999. this is what full size suvs cost now.

Only because people continue to pay it. They'll continue to Jack up prices as long as idiots are willing to sign up for 96+ month financing.

There has to be a breaking point. We could all learn a thing or two from our Cuban neighbors to the South. Drive the motherfrickers 'til the wheels fall off, then buy new wheels and keep driving.

I’m with you on that hill. The list of cars I’ve owned in my life is a 1993 Corolla, a 2000 maxima and a 2010 RAV4. All bought used for cash. Combined I’ve spent less than $30,000 buying those three cars. Low interest rates aren’t actually low when the principal is inflated and the asset is depreciating.

If you’re a two income household in white collar jobs, you’re talking about $250k combined income, so that’s not an outrageous price tag. Let’s say you trade in a 5 yr old Tahoe and you get 20k for it. Finance 60k at 1.9% for 48 months and your monthly note is ~1300. That’s only about 11% of your take home, accounting for $25k of pretax savings and 35% tax burden.

It doesn’t offer much incremental value over something like a Highlander or Traverse unless you have a lot of kids, but to each his own. Point is, there are plenty of families out there who can comfortably afford an $80k vehicle especially given the low rate environment.
