It's pretty incredible if you look around and see what people drive when you know how much these cars all cost. Then look at median salary for household for your areas. Do the math. It doesn't add up.

Well the issue with this is the condition of the respective vehicles 3-5 years out. The POS Chevy is likely to be well ahead of its German counterpart.

My last purchase was a 3 year old Mercedes with 30k miles off lease. Got it for half its original sales price and that included CPO with extended warranty covering it for 4 years.

It’s had minor fixes, like a window motor. Nothing major. That was 7 years and 80k miles ago. If I drive it at 100mph, it rides as smooth as it ever did.

Everyone I know with big American SUVs is always dealing with problems as they age.

I'm not going to start another thread but I'd love to know what the OT thinks is reasonable for a new full size truck with a midrange trim/interior is.

I remember the last time we had $4 gas there were some good deals to be found on used trucks and SUVs.

And yet I see brand new ones around me every day. The $80k pickups as well.

Apparently people have decided not to skimp on vehicles.

I've seen F150 XLTs in the mid 40s recently. That's not even midrange. I paid 32k for mine in 2017.

I like paying cash for cars. Car notes are a good way to stay poor. That said, the most I pay for cars is 20K. My priority is on paying off my house by age 50 (3 years from now) and being debt free.

I have a 2015 Accord, and 1995 F250 Powerstroke and the worst one is the 2016 Pathfinder (a shite model). I'll accept your sympathy.

I've had:

1999 Tahoe (252,000 miles) (last of the 2 door Tahoes, black, 4x4)
2007 Yukon Denali (drove to 145,000 miles)
2016 Yukon XL (drove to 90,000 miles)
2017 Tahoe (drove to 78,000 miles)
2021 Yukon XL (just crossed 10,000 miles)

No major problems except the 1999 Tahoe needed a transmission after it crossed 200,000 miles. I still own it and the 2021 Yukon XL.

Look, you are only supposed to consider the monthly note, ok. The actual cost is irrelevant.

Nevermind that actual financed cost is about 94k

Let me translate slowly. If you pay for the car in one transaction up front then you can afford it. If you think you can swing a monthly note, but you can't pay for it outright, then you can't afford it.
