Obama used complicated references that let douche rush Limbaugh pretend he didn't understand.
The TD readership ran with the stupidity.
That was on Obama. I followed the nuance but I am one of the 6 or 8 smartest people in any crowd. You can't expect the hoi polloi to follow you if you are subtle. Obama would talk with interviewer and fail to account for the 100 iq tv audience.
Obama is good but not great.
Trump talks as if to 8 yr olds.

No, he was an awful orator but held on to Russia by other means. Lenin was a much better speaker and unfortunately created the conditions that let Stalin take over.
As was fricking Mao.

Uh
He was garbage on his feet and when he didn’t have questions handed to him or without his teleprompter.

No, he just doesn’t give long winded, bloviating bullshite responses like most politicians.

Wasn't Reagan called "The Great Orator"?
In my life time, for world leaders I can remember (and understand thwir language), it's hands down not even close Barack Obama.
Even if you legitimately hate him, don't agree with a single one of his policies, and are racist too just for the cherry on top... You really can't deny what an amazingly talented and captivating speaker.

Dude was garbage without a teleprompter in front of him. He didn’t write any of his speeches, I guarantee it.
As much as I despise him, he spoke pretty much the same in debates. He was smooth in those as well.

David Attenborough.....he is the guy who narrates the Planet Earth shows among others.

I assume that crowd doesn't include any English majors.

No, he wasn’t. He couldn’t speak on his feet. He had to have a teleprompter in front of him or questions softballed to him from Leslie Stahl or Scott Pelley to form coherent thoughts.

Where to begin?
I said I hated his tempo, and that made him sound like a buffoon. So you're already showing me you have no sense of "nuance".
From what I've seen of your posts, you're only the sixth or eight smartest person in a filled up 300 square foot studio apartment.
Lastly, who the heck said anything about Trump? You threw in a straw man at the end for good measure.

I could listen to Shelby Foote read the ingredients of a box cereal and be intrigued. Something about his voice just relaxes you. If you ever watched Ken Burn’s “The Civil War” you will know who I am talking about.

John Facenda, "The voice of God."

Hitler, the glazed look in the eyes in many of those newsreels, he must have been magnificent, we tend to think of english speaking orators because obviously we can understand them

Little known fact: Hitler’s doc shot him up with meth and other substances before speeches.

It’s hard to say objectively who was best without the benefit of recording devices.
I think any list without Cicero has no credibility, though. Rome was a society of polished orators, and his peers considered him the GOAT. Some of his speeches that have been written down are straight up gold.
As for the speakers I’ve heard live or recorded... sad to say it, but you have to include Hitler. JFK, MLK, Churchill.

How does Huey P. Long compare? From my viewing of video, he seems overly animated with somewhat overdone hand motions. But that might have just been the style back in the day.
If you listen to a Huey Long speech on Youtube and then listen to an Obama speech, they sound eerily similar.
