You can blame then Sen. Kip Holden and Rep. Sharon Weston Broome along with Pat Smith and the legislature who denied the ISDs for Central then SEBR.

I’m guessing he endorsed her, right? How did he fall for that? I was away during the election and wasn’t able to follow it at all.

Correct on everything except this. Major democrat. Hasn’t shown any support for republicans in recent years.

This is the only answer. Had it not been for this, you'd still have neighborhood schools. It pushed kids into private schools and out of the parish because no one wanted to send their kids to a school with a bunch of ghetto kids. Not that they didn't want black kids in the school, they wanted the ghetto kids to stay in the ghetto.
I actually agree with GreatLakes too. It wasn't that most parents didn't want black kids in their kids school. They just didn't want kids from Zion City bused to their neighborhood schools.
It absolutely destroyed the schools here. We had some busing to Central back then but luckily we were far enough out for it not to be very much.

How many places in Louisiana had forced busing though? At least out in the country, I haven't seen many (if any).
Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if people hadn't pulled their kids out of public schools when integration hit. It seems like a lot of people kind of ceded the public schools to the "ghetto" kids as you call them.
Louisiana probably always had a higher than average number of kids in private schools because of the Catholic schools, but it seems like when integration hit you saw a big increase plus the establishment of LISA type schools designed specifically so that people could send their kids to schools without minority students.

Rolfe makes coherent arguments as to who is responsible for St. George...you make fun of where he grew up, where he went to high school, where he lives, and supposedly how he started the business report.
What the frick do you do for a living? Where do you live? What is your opinion as to who is responsible for St. George?
