I moved into Baton Rouge 40 yrs. ago and they were dedicating funds to "synchronize" lights back then, they have been at it ever since. Someone's bro-in-law has that contract.
There is some centralized control of some of the lights and IMO ole KIPPIE changed to left turn sequence to the end of the green cycle not at the beginning, on THE Friday just before the vote for roads and Riverfront.
I fully expect the same tactics when Broom's vote makes it out of council. More sales taxes is her battle cry!! TAX AND SPEND!!

What is the synchronization the OP speaks of, seems like an interesting idea.

Rumor was that the City fricked with the light synchronization in hopes of getting residents to vote for Broome’s tax plan.

Should have seen the clusterfrick at Airline/Old Hammond yesterday morning. The left hand turning lanes never got a green arrow. People were literally making left hand u-turns and left hand turns across airline on red.

A Baboon nicknamed rear-end.

You posted this at 6:52am. Most of the lights aren’t synced before 7am.
If you think any of them are wrong email Ingolf at EBR DPW traffic. He actually responds and will investigate.

Whoever was in charge of this for the Essen Lane project needs to be brought out back and shot.
100% agree as I drive it everyday as well.
The 3 lanes were great but now you catch every freaking light from Hennessy to 1-10!
The light at Mary Bird should last half as long as it does AND ONLY CHANGE WHEN SOMEONE IS WAITING NOT WHEN NO CARS ARE THERE.
The light at Essen Park (Next to RaceTrack) goes red way to often and long for drivers on Essen!

PS: O'Neal from I-12 to Central Thruway is just as bad or worse......
And don't get me started about 1-12 intersection at O'Neal talk about a cluster..

I take ghetto back roads as opposed to dealing with Acadian. That is a bunch of noise. Sure I may get shot in Valley Park, but that will forever give me street cred.
As for OP, could not agree more about that one stupid light by that Racetrack (isn't it something else now?)
Siegen not much better.

Good read.
It looks as if we keep replacing old technology with new instead of synchronizing all the lights and then maintaining what we have.
Millions have been spent without much progress. The mayor wants to spend 50 million more than what's already in the pipe line.
I think consultants and vendors will get rich while EBR will remain gridlocked.

The worst one is the light at Rural Life, where the light turns red just so one fatass can turn into the Racetrack and get their morning 32oz cup of sugar.
I thought it was just me. I travel this road daily.
It's only been since the construction has wrapped up but that light has gotten a lot more love for the people turning on to or off of Essen Park.

They are synchronized. They are synchronized to turn red on you. We are one of the worse cities when it comes to this. Go to other major cities on trips and it is better. We continue to hire the same engineers who created this mess to only recreate it again.

My gut feeling is they tamper with synchronization at times to make some lights worse than normal in order to pass a tax. Sometimes on Airline, it's backed up horibly strictly due to light synchronization and other times it's not as bad.

Traffic calming. In often congested areas you purposely slow traffic for safety purposes.

Florida, Siegen and Bluebonnet are not bad IF YOU get your timing down.
Florida needs one of those two lights at the Cox building pulled down and at least another between Airline and Sherwood. If traffic routinely backs up so much that cars can't pass through one light because of the stopped traffic of the next light, that's a problem.

I've noticed this as well.
The worst part is Essen seems to give up the right of way to single vehicle side streets as soon as the sensor notices a car. Typically for a 6 or 7 lane highway the sensor will start a timer however it seems to begin the yellow light signal.
With a major hospital on Essen it's not essential to keep side streets clearing every 60 seconds.

Why? No need for someone on a side street or turning lane to wait 4 min for a rush hour cycle at 6am...
