absolutely remember
I was 10
out on the driveway at uncle bennys house on woodland ridge Blvd. his house backed up to the creek and back then it was basically a woods creek full of shite to catch.
It was a good day I remember it well, not many I can say that about as we get older. That was probably the best year this country had had up to that point. The bicentennial was awesome

Huh ? Any of us here on this board who are in our 40s and 50s- which im guessing is one of the prime demographics here- we most certainly had fathers and uncles who fought in the Vietnam “conflict”…. Personally , my grandfather(s) fought in Korea .

We were poor as shite every extra penny my parents had went to pay for catholic school. Somehow my dad managed to take us to Washington DC for a week. I was in awe first vacation that wasn’t in grand isle and to be there in dc at that time was mind blowing to me. I have since been around the world and that trip stands out the most.

I remember driving with my family from Shreveport to Orlando to go to Disneyworld over the 4th that summer. Sitting in a wood paneled station wagon for hours on end playing board games in the back with no seatbelts. At that time you had to drive through groves of orange trees before you got to Disneyworld.

I was 3 months late to the game

Like it was yesterday. Never saw as many people shooting off fireworks since that time. Nearly every house in the neighborhood was outside celebrating. I was only six but can vividly remember it all and what a time we had.

Grew a beard for our town’s bicentennial beard growing contest. I did’t even place. Drank a mug of ice cold draft beer at our local city bar. Our fire department cooked a killer BBQ Chicken Plate dinner. Finished the celebration that evening with a fire works display. Fun times.

God help the people coming up with names for these anniversaries if the Republic lasts another hundred years to reach it's 350th birthday! "Semiquincentennial" is durned near impossible enough for me to get my head around!
Thanks, Wally!

We had the American Freedom Train at Fair Park in Dallas.
And my elementary school did a play about America, which was open to the public. Our family only planned to watch one night, but we ended up there every night, since I was selected to wear my Cub Scout uniform and hold the American Flag while we all said the Pledge of Allegiance.

I was almost 8. Lived across the street from the city park that was the site of the celebration. My old man came in second in arm wrestling and his hippy buddy that smelled of weed took me riding in his Olds 442. Mom's team won the softball tourney. Jack Miller's burgers and lots of Schlitz. Good times

Remember it well as I was 16! Good times indeed!

I was 15. Parents took me to see the Tall Ships parade in the Boston Harbor. Over 200 ships from 30 nations. I used to have a great beta max video of it where I can be seen getting whacked in the back of my head by my dad for trying to get in a TV reporters live broadcast. Ahh. Good times.
