I flooded in August.
It was rough living with my parents for 6 months & they are great.

I am closer to 30 now, and used to feel like I was maybe missing out by not hopping on the marriage/baby bandwagon, but as most of my friends have had kids in recent years, I realize it's not as magical and wonderful as it's cracked up to be. I like my wine, social life and not being a slave to a household. Maybe I won't be so happily selfish one day.

This. All of this.

I lived alone for ten years before I got married. Five of those years I lived in downtown Austin. Like anything else, living alone does get old at times. Stuff that bothered me. Cooking. I would make a great pot of Gumbo or whatever and nobody was there to eat with me. Eating alone is kind of sad sometimes. I had the TV on the entire time most days just so it would not be so quiet. I quickly became tired of the sportsbar scene and I had no one at home to watch the LSU games with. Texting during the game was just not the same. Procrastination was also my worst enemy. Cleaning was an afterthought and depended only if I had company coming over. My place was messy. I would drop some loud F bombs when playing call of duty. Apparently it was so loud a neighbor down the hall asked me one time "do you ever hear somebody cussing". I quickly realized she was talking about me so I stopped but you say stupid stuff like this when you get mad while living alone.

Yes, there are a ton of positives for living alone. I was just sharing a few negative ones I experienced.

A friend told me once that some people recharge by being around people( sounds like you) and some by being alone.

I do by being alone. I miss the joy of being in love but eventually things always go south after a couple years. In my mid 4Os and starting to realize I may be incapable of a relationship.

Late 20's and an only child, so alone is all I've really ever known... now that I've bought my condo with no roommates, I love it.

Spend my day at work around a bunch of people so it's nice to have some peace and quiet at home

It took me almost 3 years after my divorce to get used to it. I had my kids most of the time the first couple of years though, so there wasn't much down time for me. Now for the first time in forever, I have the time to be a little selfish. I get to spend as much time as I want in the gym, go to the beach and relax, go watch a movie I want to see, go to a bar and have a couple of drinks, go to a concert, etc. (when I don't have my kids).

Yes, I miss having a family. It hurts every single time my boys leave me for an entire week. I miss being in love with someone. But it would take me being absolutely crazy for someone to give up my freedom I have.

Thats one thing that stays in the back of my single mind. Like when I'm 65 will I regret not having someone to spend the slow times with. But even I find someone tomorrow whom is perfect, there is no guarantee she won't leave me when I'm 50 or turn into a huge bitch whom I either have to live with or go through a divorce.

My dad has a cousin who is nearly 80. Great funny old guy who everyone likes. Been with the same woman since he was 20. A few years ago when my dad was going through a late divorce this cousin confessed to him that he can't stand his own wife. Said she was unpleasant when they were younger and he just hoped she'd mellow out when they grew old together. That apparently has never happened. He's been with someone he doesn't like and will never like for rest of his life.

That shite is scary.

The responsibility aspect of patenting is gone. Of course you feel more at ease and a better father.

I feel lonely. Tigerdroppings is my only friend. No one loves me. My parents are gone. My brother died 18 months ago. My cousin died two weeks ago. I wish that I had a woman that I could cuddle with and take out to dinner. I'll be 50 in five months. Life does seem quite meaningless. My faith keeps me alive.

Would only make one change and that is to have my daughter here. Otherwise, it's bliss.
