That reminded me of a guy up there getting gas for his boat who dropped his wallet over the side and the carp were so abundant and active he said his wallet hardly got wet with the carp flapping all around and bouncing the wallet up and down and every which way and towards deeper water.

It was the first time, as far as we know, that anyone had ever seen.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................carp to carp walleting.

The thought of eating them makes me want to hurl. I'm right in the middle of the Asian Carp/CWD Deer ground zero. Basically the Great Lakes are at the mercy of Chicago keeping up the barriers. They could do so more but refuse to do so. This means they are one wrong lock position with a loss of power to the electric barrier away from screwing over the entire ecosystem. Meanwhile the upper Midwest has already moved beyond that point with CWD. I attended an outdoor writer's conference and heard about the CWD issue for two days. Scary AF.

I've eaten gefilte fish in NYC. Actually quite good. A Jewish delicacy made mostly of carp and pike. Fish cakes, sort of. Very pricey in NY deli's.

It’s very bony and difficult to clean from what I understand.

The problem is most of the US doesn't want to eat fish off the bone anymore. Having said that, we had a good fish fry up in Iowa with mostly Asian Carp and some Walleye. My cousin scales the carp and cuts the big ones in 1" steaks like you would with Kings. Battered then fried. No flavor issues. At least not for my pallet.

Just convince democrats that Asian Carp cause climate change.

Then they'd impose a tax on us for eating anything other than Asian carp, and pay China to do nothing.

Can't be any worse than the flavorless tilapia or basa which is imported. Tilapia isn't a cheap fish either.
Market it as the bones make the fish taste better like in steaks.

Used to go to Joe Tess restaurant in Omaha with my dad, get a double rib basket. They would score the outside before the fried it so you could pull the meat off easy. It was all farm raised though.

We always called it Snake Verret. It really is crazy how many snakes are in that lake.

What are you scared of?

People have been eating deer with CWD for a while.

Sounds like a full on asian invasion, and not just fish. Chance all the jobs spoken about are for imported asians.

I’m sure I can figure out a way to eat Asian carp.

That's a good point.

Look at what we have to go through to actually eat a ditch creature and how you have to treat it to make it edible.

We can find a way to dress up a carp.

It isn't that the flesh tastes bad, it is really boney. More and more local farm to table type joints are trying to make dishes with it.

I'm drawing blank on the name of the joint but somebody in Cape is. I thought I saw it on KFVS site, but I just searched and it was showing the piece about the Wickliffe plant.

Edit -- here is the link to what I saw... LINK

Have you ever had Buffalo ribs? That's pretty much how you prepare them. We've fried up batches of buffalo ribs and flathead and most folks will choose the buffalo.

It's not bad, it does have a lot of floating bones throughout the meat though. so that makes it less than desirable

I have and it's good. I'd eat Asian carp long before basa ("catfish") that was raised in some Tawainese/VC shite pond.

They're in the borrow pits along the Mississippi River at St. Gabriel, too.
