Who exactly maintains the roads in Louisiana?

So I made my annual trip from DFW to Houma and it seems like road infrastructure is the last thing on this states to do list.
Between the canyon at the slip ramp to get onto 49 in Shreveport to actual segments of 49 and 20 looking straight out of 2005 if Katrina was still around, it’s almost a requirement to drive a fricking truck in this state.

Nobody.

Funding for interstate highways primarily comes from the federal government through the Highway Trust Fund (HTF), which is primarily fueled by taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel, allowing states to receive federal grants to build and maintain interstate highways, although the states technically own the interstates themselves

IIRC it’s about 90% federal and 10% state funded and is managed by the LADOTD who is managed directly by the secretary if LADOTD and indirectly by the office of the governor who appoints that secretary.

Nobody, and as an added bonus you have corrupt small town cops/deputies licking their chops to pull you over as part of their shakedown.

Supposed to be done at a state level and local level, depending on the roads/highways.
Now, look at every politician in that state and tell me where you think the leadership would come from to do that. Hell, the governor is more worried about shipping crackhead tigers to LSU and creating lawsuits he'll know he'll lose than actually fixing anything in that shite hole state.
And people will cheer him on because he sounds like them and they claim he's "owning the libs".

Also, I am always met with the same lame excuse that the roads are so bad because “we’re in a swamp with a high water table and soft ground”
Florida is a swamp too and does not have any of these problems.

I like how in Houma we have to use the seams in the road to know our lanes since we cannot get any paint

One of the biggest differences between LA and other places I have lived. We can fix roads overnight here, in LA it might take months or years.

Speaking of this, yesterday was exceptionally bad so I expect the return trip to be the same. Google Maps gave me a speed check warning every five minutes lol

Funny you mention the guy that hasn’t even been governor for a year yet and not the guy who was governor for many years prior. You know, the one who could have done better at having the roads maintained.

Somebody related to somebody in office. The contracts are over inflated to line certain people’s pockets. Rarely does the work get completed.
People choose to live there tho even considering there are 49 better options.

I guess that's fair. I wasn't trying to excuse the prior shitty governors. It was more to emphasize that's the kind of politicians the state elects and yet people continue to complain that the state is getting left behind and nothing gets fixed.
That said, let's not sit here and act like Landry actually gives a damn about fixing anything actually wrong with that state. The can will continue to be kicked down the road and people like him will continue to be elected. Fortunately for Louisiana, they can't really fall behind anymore because they're already at the back of the pack.

I-49 in Shreveport is the best originally build stretch of interstate in Louisiana. 3x3 with long exit only ramps at every intersection.

Funny you failed to mention that our new governor's priorities are a real tiger in Tiger stadium, increasing the state sales tax, and hanging the 10 commandments in classrooms. Nothing offered regarding upgrading the state's infrastructure.

If it’s a neighborhood street enough complaining will get it fixed… on some of the major streets and roads local businesses be the hang up don’t want the inconvenience

I get jealous of their interstate every-time I drive through there to get to Dallas. BR needs something like that desperately.
