My mom is our hero. We have a chest freezer in the garage and she's been filling about 20 bags of these things with water and freeze them solid. Each of us would grab a couple of bags to take with us to bed. It's great and keeps us cool all night. It starts to melt after a couple of hours but she have many more in the freezer just waiting to be swapped out.

Still, 77-78 in these temps is not a horrible output. You figure at 105 outside you still are getting a 25-30 degree reduction. 30-32 degrees I find is the max output of most central units.
This weather is going to challenge your A/C no matter the size. I've not seen it this persistently hot without appreciable rain ......maybe ever or at least since 1980 when Bob Breck did the weather one night in shirt sleeves, shorts and sandals

DSLD homes are looking mighty fricking fine this Summer. Our cookie cutter piece of shite house by OT standards is incredibly energy efficient. $127 'lectric bill last month. AC cools to 72° in 100° with no issues nor tree cover.
Yeah I’m loving my non-custom house. 4700 sf chilling at 74 all day with the AC even cutting off. Of course I’m also smart enough to not try to keep the upstairs at 72 all day. That’s just dumb. Set it at 75.

Any advice on door seals? Our garage entry door is near the front unit thermostat. I can see light coming thru. I want to find a great gasket that will block the air but still allow door to bolt without shoving in it.

My A/C and I are fighting the good fight. Ceiling fan on in the family room, window a/c in the bedroom and the upstairs stays on 82. I turn it down to 70 in the morning to cool off the house and I’ll put it on 73 or 74 during the day. It keeps up, but 4:30/5:00 is a struggle. And it works to get down to 72 by 8:00.
The filter probably could have gone another month, but just replaced it anyway.
Not looking forward to this next week.

I just replaced my filters early as well about an hour ago. I also went down a few MERVS from what I usually use. I will go back to regular filtering level in a couple of weeks.

We moved into a new house a couple of months ago, and it is so well insulated that my AC is hardly running. It is amazing how good that spray foam stuff is. The downside is that yhou never really know if your roof is leaking.
