I never though I would but here I am, cooking every few days for him. He is 15 1/2 and lost most of his teeth. So the dry food is now out. I was feeding him the wet food but over the last week he quit eating it no matter what I put in front. Bloodwork fine, just didn't like the food. He'd gobble up treats or any meat I'd dice up and put in front of him. So... a rescue friend said try this and low and behold, it worked.

Cooked down chicken, carrots, green beans in chicken broth. Then once done, added sweet potato and diced the hell out of to almost a mash. Little booger loves it. Slurped it up. Now he is walking around the food bowl wanting.

Never though I would be cooking gourmet meals for a dog.

We have different opinions of "gourmet meals".

You know there are companies that sell pretty much exactly that menu for dogs, right?

Stuffing overcooked chicken breast in a kong keeps him busy for a bit, so yes, already do.

we have a dog that has lymphoma, getting chemo right now as a matter of fact, the wife cooks for her and says she's going to live her best life for her remaining days, I silently said "so you've known she's had cancer from the day we got her?"

Just read up on it and add things they need to be sure he doesn't decline in health. There are a lot of extra things dogs need (iron, calcium, etc.) that won't come from just meat and veggies.

For example, baked egg shells will need to be added occasionally.

Anyway, no judgment from me.

My dog gets a warm microwaved blend of dry food, wet food, and this food from the refrigerated section at Robert:

I read the title the same way and thought, WTF haha

Normal dog food for mine, but the kids have other ideas...so I guess technically a mix.

That is why I don't cook from scratch for my FIV cat. But I put a whole lot of different gourmet toppings in rotation to get him to eat his cat food when he is sick and doesn't want to eat.

My dog gets plain ole kibble usually. If he ever has a bout of diarrhea or something like that, then I'll make boiled chicken and white rice and feed him that for a few days.

Same here. When I come home from the store with a hot rotisserie chicken, you'd think it was their last meal. Both the cat and the dog swarm me waiting for their bites of warm chicken.

About once a month I prepare my homemade dog food. I buy chicken leg quarters when they are on sale for .29-.39 per lb and I place 20lbs in my pressure cooker. I bring it up to 10lbs of pressure and cook for 1.5-2.0 hours. I usually go for the full two hours.

Once cooled, I run the chicken quarters, bones and all, through my meat grinder. I also cook 2 lbs of chicken liver or beef liver and run that through the grinder.

I place all of this ground, cooked, meat in a lug and mix with 1lb of sweet peas, 1lb of green beans, 1lb of sweet potato, and 1lb of spinach. I then scramble 2 dozen eggs and cook 4 cups of dry brown rice. I add this to the mix and place it into freezer containers in 1 cup servings.

My dog has lived quite well on this mix for over 5 years now. He is a 70 lb pit bull and gets 2.5 cups of food per day.

I actually knew someone that only fed the dog what they were eating. if they were having cereal and milk, the dog got a bowl of cereal and milk. Spaghetti for dinner, get the dog a plate. Jimmy dean breakfast biscuits? warm up two more for the dog.

We need to get him set up on a back nine tee box with an ice chest full of beer. When groups come around, they have to do a tee flip and whoever it lands on has to take the drive of a wasted WC and finish the hole.

Maybe put Fred out there with him and a tee flip to decide which one of them takes the tee shot.

Our dogs eat scarps as a treat but normally eat dog food.

Growing up and living with my grandma, she had a dog that she cooked a bowl of eggs from the yard chickens for every morning.
