It would be a whole lot better if the lakes and that part of the river had better fishing.

Years ago when I came back to town, I would love to go to George's or Sammy's, maybe Ninfa's or mike Anderson's, but things have changed.....I guess I'm just getting old

good local restaurants. examples:
-fleur de lis
-pinettas
-maison lacour
-chelseas
good access to hunting/fishing opportunities
easy access to good seafood
believe it or not, a lot of days that you can reasonably spend a good part of outside
some solid neighborhoods
-southdowns
-old jefferson
-capital heights
decent live music scene
ETA:
solid job market (you can try to marginalize this by claiming it's all petrochemical, but that's what the LA economy is largely based on. every area of the country has it's own strengths in terms of business. ours is petrochemical. and there are other strong markets in LA, but pchem is so large that i agree it tends to overshadow everything else.)
all of these comments are with regards to other cities of similar size. baton rouge has around 250K people and will never be able to compete with the 1 million+ population major cities anywhere.

After a conversation with my son today, the local towing/vehicle storage companies are extremely diligent.

There are things, but its not a place worth living long term after college IMO.

BR has good places for poboys and one of the nicer domestic Renaissance hotels I've stayed in. My parents live off of a Highland Rd and the drive from campus to their house is gorgeous...even with that Mexican cartel looking compound near Bluebonnet

I've made a fortune here and continue to do so. That's one good thing.

The quality of the tap water is outstanding. And some of the scenery is very photogenic. That's all I can think of.

Walmart on O'neal Lane. It's underrated and forms part of the bed rock that makes BR so great.

Gambino's cream cheese kingcakes are nice and not located near LSU.
